A friend of mine just got a new MKIII 22/45. Does this gun need any special cleaning before firing the first time? I know some guns come from the factory with some grease or other protectant on the gun...not sure about Ruger.

You will hear both sides of this.
However,, yes,, Ruger does add a preserative oil on their guns before shipping. I'd clean it in the normal fashion before firing.
