I just picked up a new Mini-14 today. I handed it to my father at one point while the bolt was locked open and the safety off. He mistakenly pull the trigger while it was in this condition as a result the bolt slammed home and has been stuck there ever since. Can any one help me get out of this jam?

Edit: False alarm just had to re"boot" it. Please close thread

I think the takedown procedure is to pull the trigger guard down which will release the trigger mechanism. Once the trigger (and magazine) are out of the gun, the action should lift off the stock. From there, you should be able to find what is causing the jam. Hope this helps.

Please explain what your re-boot means. Sounds like the reply by area51guy was the way to go.

I've had this problem in a different way... shoot cheap commit ammo in a mini and don't clean it well and put it away for a month or two and the bolt is locked shut.... I've had to do what I call the AK-- boot move...

stand the rifle up on it's stock (barrel pointed slightly away from you) and lift your right leg above the the cocking handle and bring it down hard.... had to do this on an AK more often than once.

may notice the OP has not returned since this post

First...I have an older mini14 and pulling the trigger does not release the bolt. I "think" the bolt release plunger was depressed and trigger pulled when startled by the slamming bolt. Hopefully there was not a loaded magazine while "playing around"

Next...being new to the operation of guns, may not have realized...
with the "hammer down" there is an increase in force needed to rack the bolt back when compared to racking the bolt with the "hammer cocked".

(just my GUESS to what happen)

Re-boot might simply mean placing the butt down, barrel up and use your boot to kick the slide handle down. I had to do that with a full grown M14 once or twice.

I had the stupidity of firing cheap no name foreign 5.56 ammo in my new Mini 14 . I then forgot to clean it stored it away for few weeks in a humid closet with the bolt closed and the thing froze up shut. Applied the boot to the slide handle method to free it up and had a hell of a time cleaning, scraping all the rust and burned powder goo out of the rifle. I learned a lesson early on with that one. I promise to "never abuse my Mini 14 again"
