I am a new member but have been around Ruger firearms all my life. I was lucky enough to grow up with a father who was a huge fan of Ruger firearms. I remember as when I was quite young being allowed to carry my fathers Bearcat pistol in a great little Idaho Gun Leather black leather basketweave pattern with rawhide stitching holster. A combo that still is together in his collection today.
I purchased my first Ruger rifle in the early 80's when I was 15 or 16 years old from Bill Hicks, Ltd. I still remember the flyer coming in the mail, they had Ruger #1AB variation in 30-06 I paid somewhere around $650 for it, only wanted one because because my father had bought the same #1AB model in a 7x57 a few months before and I thought it was the coolest rifle I had seen at the time. My father gifted me a Ruger P85 pistol when I graduated from high school have enjoyed shooting it from time to time. It is still in the plastic clamshell case in the shipping box.
Through the years I have been blessed to attend the Shot Show meeting Kelly Glenn multiple times, (I brag because I literally just found one of my posters she signed for me). I have bought and sold a couple or more Ruger's I wish I still had but have a few others I will never part with. I parted ways with the first 1AB I bought gifting it to my father since I was a scrawny little thing I did not enjoy the thing kicking the crap out of me. In turn that year he gifted me a #1B for my birthday in 270 which I still have. I have acquired a few more #1 rifle in various calibers 204, 218, 257 Weatherby, 250 Savage as well as variations of the Hawkeye in of course 204, 17 WSM, 17 and 22 hornet. I think the Green Mountain options are some of the best looking laminate rifles Ruger has made through the years, I thought the others were great until the green came into play.
Despite not being much of an AR guy I of course bought some of the Gas Piston SR556 rifles as well! Oh and before I forget I was fortunate enough to acquire my grandfathers 357 Blackhawk, which has the box (old parts as well) that was upgraded years ago, still has the old leather holster that is probably nearly as old as I am. So here I am a son 50 plus year old son of a Ruger collector joining the forums site. Hopefully I will interact enough soon to list a few Ruger things I have for sale and probably but more things than I ever take the time to sell. Thank you for letting me Join the group!
