Looks like I'm going to be getting into long range shooting.

Won a RPR at a gun bash. newest edition, camo, .308 Win. Will get delivered to my shop in about a week.

Now have to start looking at optics, leaning towards a Vortex Viper.
Then a bipod, probably an Atlas (buy once, cry once)

Already have a coach lined up, one of my customers and he is VERY good.

Going to be an interesting new challenge.

It probably will be that also, I'm picking a lot of long distance shooter brains and getting a lot of suggestions. Most have been saying the 30 mm tube Vortex Viper PST Gen II in either the 5-25x50 FFP MRAD or the 3-15x44 FFP MRAD with Seekins mount or rings.

Congratulations!

The Vortex Gen II scopes seem to be good. I would not advise the gen I models for NRL / PRS - style competition. The SWFAs are all very durable, too, and there's no price-related crying with most of them. A Bushnell Elite Tactical would also be a very good scope choice.

The 308 will be a challenge compared to what you'll see the top competitors using, but free is an outstanding buy-in cost!

Get a Super Chicken to learn with, and then, when you have a better idea of what works for you, trade up to a Bushy LRHS or Nightforce.
Or you may decide you like the SS.
