Ever since the JK-8 kit came out we've(I work at a Jeep dealership since 1985) been hoping they would do this, can't wait to see one on the new platform.

I had a jeep pu a 1975 bought it brand spanking new. Thing was tough go anywhere.
Trouble is was rusted to the door handle by 1979 never seen a vehicle deteriorate so quickly.
Granted plenty of road salt in the winter here in the northeast, but other pu's held up much better.
Like the Idea just need better body. ps

Wonder if they can hit $40,000 with this one? They priced me out of the market years ago when I drove past a dealer and saw an unlimited with $35,000 painted on the windshield.
I miss my CJ-8 and love my Cherokee but I don't see myself buying anything new from them.

Well you know Jeep had been wanting to appeal to a new crowd with prices like that they got what they wanted, trouble is they left the old loyal crowd behind the ones that were repeat buyers, yuppies like to buy these fancy over priced Jeeps then a few months down the road they decide they don't like them and trade them off and never buy an other Jeep, a losing situation for everyone.

I tend to agree but you can still get a 2 door Wrangler with everything you need for 25K, not cheap, but affordable. The resale value is ridiculously high, if you have good credit or pay cash you can buy new for less(total payment) than someone with bad or marginal credit will pay(total payment) for a used one.

Who is going to take a 40k Jeep out in the hills and actually use it like a Jeep should be? I really wish Jeep would go back to building affordable utility vehicles, and stop trying to build yuppies SUV's.
Waited many years till I could buy my very first Jeep. It did 293,000 miles in 9 years and was then sold to a little girl here in town that is still driving it. If they had offered the Jeep PU back when I sold that one I might have looked at it. But now I drive a Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with the Ram-Box system......so unless the other mfg's develop something similar to the Ram-Box

My daughter has just become part of the work force. Has been driving my Land Cruiser since she was in high school and left for NYU undergrad and said Im staying in NYC, fashion comes first right after the first winter there. Grad school and landed a high paying job in Miami and I lost my green TJ 98 true crawler 5 speed to her.
High prices for a new one,absurd, no quality, just add on junk to the Wrangler, their are dozens sitting in lots,2010's. 11's 12's and so on, tow hooks in the wrong place, cheeped out. I have always had a jeep. Believe it or not, the Wrangler originally came with a 4 cyl engine, 4 speed manual with a price tag of $4,895. When my wife gave birth to daughter #1 she got a white Jeep Wagoonare Limited, wooden sides, a '87 luxury Jeep outfitted for snow and ice, the last Jeep made by Jeep.
I had stolen my brothers Golden Eagle he lost the floor, after 9 years the floor wore out, couldn't believe it, was unheard of.
It sits now, alone, finish was redone with the floor but rust has claimed it, too old, metal just too thin, sad end, for sale in Warren Vermont with warning.
I, and my daughter wait for a good Wrangler for her as she and wife trade my wifes Tuareg and Jeep. My wife calls the TJ a motorcycle
with 4 wheels, has a Dana 44, front and rear, 4:11 final,close ratio shift 1 and 2,a jump to4,5,6 and more all done by Jeep.
What a outstanding crawler.
We are patiently waiting for the unlimited to be made with 2 doors with origional options or a Wrangler worthy of the name.

I bought my 98 Volvo S-70 back in 2006 for $5500 and I'm STILL driving it although it could use a power steering ram or seals to stop the leaks. (Got too old to crawl underneath it and do the work). Turn the key and she fires right up, rides great and handles ALMOST like a sports car (Ford screwed them up somewhat compared to my old 87 760 GLE which turned on a dime and gave you 8 cent change)

I'm enthusiastic repurchaser of (yet another) JK a few months ago.
The old one gave 91000 miles of virtually perfect service, with no real issues.
I'm happy to find the new one has factory OEM upgrades of marvelous advantage.
Years ago I was crushed when Jeep prices for new models suddenly were well over $10,000.
Life goes on, and so does my Wrangler preference.
Got to admit, 285hp and a slick 5 speed auto, along with good heat/cooling/good ride and other pleasantries of the genre make the JK a perfect choice for my retirement use.

Another website rated several Jeep models among the worst new vehicles you could purchase.
So, in search of something better Jeep engineers are showing their lack of imagination. They took the CJ and morphed it into the YJ (epic fail). Then the did good by making the TJ. Now they had a bit of confidence so they reinvented the CJ-8 (which is really just an updated CJ-6) as the Unlimited. Thing really started to go down hill when they added a second set of doors and made it look like a Hummer. Not satisfied with that they have chopped the cab and gave it a small bed, which looked even more like a hummer.
Now here's where Jeep is going to screw the consumer. The CJ-6 was considered a passenger vehicle. The CJ-8 was listed as a pickup, so at least in my state you have to pay weight fees and commercial vehicle registration. Well guess what, they are going to call this thing with a teensy weensy bed a pickup thus forcing folks to pay those commercial vehicle fees, again.
