New GP100 has found a home

Howdy, new to the Ruger forum!
Recently added the GP100 to my family.
Will be visiting here often for tips and other info and hope to share experiences as well.
This is NIB and manufactured in Aug of this year. I plan to load moderate 357 JHP for SD and 38spl +p for plinking and practice.
Just curious any thoughts on the Golden Saber 125g. Seems to be a middle road magnum round. Or should I be using heavier bullets with this heavy revolver? Would like to target/practive with 38 +p

That golden sabre is a tough bullet. I've been very pleased with them in 9mmx19, 357Mag, and .45 ACP.

The GP is a great revolver! I have a couple of them and I shoot them quite a bit. I normally shoot them USPSA Competition, but I'm on an autoloader kick lately so they've been waiting patiently to be called to duty.

Perfect .357 imo. I've got one born at the end of 2009.

A real brute with a great trigger.

Ruger has really been paying attention to that trigger as of late.

Add 2 inches to the barrel, and we own the same gun! :wink:

The GP100 ROCKS...
Hunting, plinking, self defense,etc.

If I had to dump all but one of the guns I own...The GP100 would be the keeper!
HOPE THAT DAY NEVER HAPPENS! :roll: :lol:

JMHO yer 4" barrel choice a really good one...
Best compromise between power and size!

Ya asked ammo choices.....
Am an old school kinda guy....125 grain full powered rounds...my favorite.

Ya mentioned Golden Saber 125g....
Although never fired that round in a .357..... Golden Saber's a favorite in my RUGER .40SW.

The Golden SABER ROUND...in general....
Followed it from the day it came out....the design rocks!
The hollow point opens fast, yet great on weight retention...(it doesn't fall apart).
I have no doubt that would apply to the .357 round too!

I have owned SEVERAL .357 magnums since 1981..
Traded in a fancy COLT PYTHON to buy the GP100 that I own now.....
Turned out a GREAT MOVE!

YET AGAIN...JMHO....
The GP100 is one of,if not THE best .357 double action revolver out there.
Reliable, accurrate, and ---as yer model is stainless too...forgiving on a slow cleaning...lol

For target/informal shooting start at the bottom of the price ladder, using 38 Specials if you prefer, and working UPWARD in cost until your personal performance criteria is met.

Lower-cost quality options include Georgia Arms, Federal/Speer/Remington/Winchester/Sellier & Beloit/PMC/etc.

The GP-100 is a great gun. It will digest unlimited rounds of 357mag ammo. There are many considerations with which ammo to load for self protection including bullet performance, recoil, muzzle flash, noise, penetration, etc. but the gun will handle them all without incident. If you practice with 38 specials be sure to clean the 'crud rings' out of the chambers before shooting 357's. Try to find a practice ammo that shoots to the same POA as your carry ammo. :D

That's a New in Box Ruger GP100 in 357 magnum. It is the 4.2 inch model and I've shot approx 1,000 rounds thorugh it. It was about $569 new in Maryland including MD approved lock and spent shell casing....
Expensive, but, in MD your options are somewhat limited....... :?

That's a great looking gun. I've been considering one, as well. I "fondled" a 4" model at the local range pro shop a few days ago; I think that the price was similar to MD pricing. I get free rentals at the range, so the next time I'm there, I plan to give it a try.

This would be a nice complement to my SR9c.

Nice piece not so sure about the price but as you stated Maryland is not so Gun Friendly. You may have gotten a better deal online.
