New flattop model!!!

Here's another one that slipped by all of us! This one is 2-3 years old and it still amazes me how some of the distributors and Ruger itself can produce something and not advertise it to its full potential. In other words..they are producing stuff like a company would a washer or a dryer...something that will one day wear out and nobody cares about...its just metal, right? So Ruger makes stuff as fast as they can without much market research (apparently) to see how they can fully exploit the potential market for such an idea.

A latest case in point?? How about a .41 Mag Blackhawk "flattop" with Bisley grip frame??? :shock:
Just heard about serial number 48-10410 which has a 7-1/2" barrel and was purchased through Gander Mountain 2 to 3 years ago. It is Ruger model 10410.

Yes, I understand some of Ruger's attitude about this stuff. They make the guns and then let the customer decide whether to collect it or not, or let the customer decide that it should have a higher "collector" value. What I don't understand is, if Ruger makes a little bit of profit on every gun they make, if at least some portion of the market knew about some of this stuff, wouldn't Ruger be able to realize a much larger profit because of all the extra guns they have to make??? Does Harvard not teach this stuff?

I missed it too and REALLY wish I hadn't. This was in the prime of my Bisley fever and I'd have definitely gone for one, maybe two of them.

For the last several years I do 48 individual search's on three different sites for Ruger's EVERY DAY and I have never saw or heard of one for sale. Another Link in the Chain!,,, :? Do you know if the owner has gotten a letter on this gun yet?

If you blow the pic up you can see all the info right there on the fired cartridge case envelope, model 10410, serial number 48-53423.
I've got a question off to the owner to see if the checkered grips came with it, but thinking no since there's no medallions and there's another pair of red laminate Bisley grips in the picture as well.

Does anybody have any idea who is the one in charge of market research at Ruger? It is just beyond me how something like this can get out without the slightest bit of advertising by Gander Mountain, the distributor, or Ruger. Don't think this would happen with a smaller company trying to make ends meet against the big boys of the gun industry. I'd think the little manufacturer's interest would be in selling guns.
Remember the same thing happened with the (Hank) Williams (Jr.) .41 flattop. Saw the first one at the Des Moines gun show and my jaw dropped! When the word finally got out Williams Shooter Supply actually ended up selling quite a few, and as a result came out with a 4-5/8" model as well. So what is the driving force at Ruger that fails to see market potential??? I don't get it.

Chet15, the stocks on the gun in your photo are Altamonts. I had a pair on my Lipsey's Flat Top Bisley .44 Special but took them off. They are too thin in cross section for me. I replaced them with a checkered cocobolo set from Esmeralda as I did not like the laminated look of the factory stocks.

I thought they might be Altamont. Haven't heard back from the owner of this mystery gun yet to see if the grips came with it originally.

Chet ,Twice I have tried to respond to your p m regarding the grips on this gun not sure why they or not going through.The grips in the bag are the original grips. I will follow up with additional pics the first of next week.

Once I have the model number off of the box I will see what I can find out from Ruger.

Well, to date, you've got the only RB417L known!!
Can you post a pic of the box label please? Looks like Ruger goofed on that catalog number too, because there are no "L" interlock Bisley's...unless....??? Have you had the grips off of that one to see if it has an internal lock?

Chet15, The 41 Flattop Bisley arrived at my FFL dealer today I called him to get the catalog number off of the box. I am at my place in the country and will not be back in town until Monday to pick it up. I will take additional photographs and post them when I do.

Marketing research is one thing, but what the hell is the Product Manager doing?! Unless it was a one-off or test prototype that they decided they couldn't develop and sell enough to recover their costs and meet margin requirements. It all sounds pretty odd for a company like Ruger.

While we're on the subject of Ruger and their .41 mag.s I've often tried to understand why ruger won't catalog a stainless version of the Blackhawk in .41magnum. I realize special runs have occurred, however, not a single standard issue catalog gun. It seems to me that .44special and .45LC are more "traditional" calibers and that the .41 mag. crowd tend to be apt to "hunt" with them. I have hunted with my .45s, but consider my .41 a better choice and hear others saying the same, so what the h---, why no stainless??? Anybody listening? We've all seen and owned .44s and .45s that are stainless. I just don't get it! Just my $.02. I often wonder what they're thinking at Ruger.

Probably wouldn't sell many of them? That would be my guess as .41 isn't really popular. Only with strong demand would you want to commit to a 'catalog' item. Special runs like Lipseys is a whole different ball game of course.

Yeah...and then they go and make one of these ????? ...an RB417L that nobody's ever heard about....yup...only one known and with all the collectors out there who can spot a flattop from several rows away at a gun show, I'll bet there aren't too many of these RB417L's either.

I've really been looking hard and not a hint of one!

Take into consideration that the known revolver was purchased about two years before being reported makes the trail even colder. That's what keeps us looking,, :wink:
