New Flashlight

I know that they are now referred to as tactical lights, but the other works for me. I mostly lurk and read, but want to get my dad a new flashlight for Father's Day. He has macular degeneration, and is legally blind, one eye is blind. He needs real bright light focused on a subject to see it. I would like a light that is about 600 lumens, rechargeable, and that has a pocket clip.

Look over at the lights on batteryjunction dot com. I've purchased nearly 10 lights from them over the past several years.

candlepowerforums dot com has loads of information.

My best piece of advice is to take the power ratings (lumens, etc) with a grain of salt unless verified by actual users. IME, Surefire, Fenix, Klarus, and Nitecore are accurate in their claims. There are others, I'm sure, but cannot speak from personal experience. I've settled on Nitecore for my needs but if I was looking for a weapon light I'd lean more toward Surefire, despite the higher price.

Nitecore MH20 is good, MH20GT is GREAT!
Both are expensive.

Nice light.

I've had the MH25 for a couple years now. They now have the MH25GT. Very bright light with a good 18650 or 2 of the CR123A batteries.

I've given away 3 other lights as gifts, 2 Nitecore and 1 Klarus.

Now I have 3 Nitecore lights: the above-mentioned MH25, the little MT10A (a 1x-AA rocket), and the EC11.

The throw on these lights is insane. I lit up 3 boy scouts on the other side of a lake with the MH25. You can really light up a room or backyard with lights like these.

Heck, I remember when it was a big deal to get 35 lumens out of a Surefire light. Now they have 4x-AA lights that claim over 2000 lumens!

I have a couple of different Streamlights that I am quite happy with, and much less expensive than some others. I have a Nitecore EA41 that I use when I take the dog out at night. The 4-AA batteries don't last very long when used at the highest setting, but other than that it is a really powerful and comfortable flashlight.

I bought a Slyde, it's got a magnet on the base and it can be pulled apart and has a very bright florescent light in the middle. It comes with a belt pouch and it stout enough to whop someone upside their head if needed. Both lights are very bright.
