So I finally broke down and got a new camera. A Panasonic DMC-ZS5. So far I'm digging it. Only issues; flash seems to alter the color quite a bit, no manual focus option (getting rare), colors are a bit flat (low satuation) and the lens refracts bright light (sun) a bit. Things I like about it, 25mm wide to 300mm zoom (35mm equivalant), nice macro, pretty nice HD video (with zoom!), accepts really big cards, lots of manual options (except focus), seems pretty well built and battery life is pretty good.

Here's some examples (also check out the holiday pic thread);

I have been using one for a few months and really like it.One of the big pluses is they improved the image stabilization technology and the intelligent zoom goes to 400mm.The only thing I wish it is an optical view finder for bright sunny days.

Short barrel - I assume the same model as I? Does it do a weird thing sometimes, usually in bright sun light, where the display goes dark in portrait (sideways)? I've noticed a couple times now and I can't figure it out. Go full 180 and it's fine. Does it regardless of mode or settings. At about 80 it starts fading out and at 100 comes back in. It's like a gyro is killing the backlight. I've heard of a few backlight issues so I'm a bit concerned. Only done it a couple timed thus far but it's weird. It's not acting like anything is loose.

Zoom is pretty nice. Better than my old 3x Sony.
