New 44 Flat-top redeems itself

I reported here a few days back about a problem I had with a new 44 Spl. Blackhawk. Right out of the box it would only do one of two things--misfire with light firing pin hits, or the hammer would not fall at all when the trigger was squeezed. This was caused by misalignment between the mainframe and the gripframe, which had the hammer in a bind. Some filing inside the hammer slot fixed the problem, but we had got off to a bad start and I was distrustful of the thang. I also had to file some off the frame and bottom of the rear sight to get it to sight in with 2400 powder and 240 gr. LSWCs at avg. 976 fps. It has now shot between 200 and 300 rounds with no more problems, and blows nice little silver dollar size groups exactly on point of aim, with rear sight blade centered (no canted front sight problem). I am now well-pleased with this pistol, but if this is the best Ruger's quality control can do, at least they could include a file along with the gunlock and manual. I intended to get my schoolgirl to post a picture or two, but she could not make it work this time. Will try again later.

Glad to hear that you got the knots straightened out. I feel you should get these issues sent up to Ruger. I would like to think that they would want QC issues brought up, so they can address them. Glad to hear that it's working out for you though.

seems like alot of QC problems popping up latley. i hope i dont have to take a gunsmith course just cause i plan on buying more rugers =)

Same problem with my 44spl Blackhawk. Misfires from light firing pin strikes.
I dis assembled and deburred and removed some sharp edges from the hammer with a small file and now there are no problems at all.
