Get your mind out of the gutter... it's a flower!

Hi,

I have one in the yard which has survived years of my neglect and still comes out with some pretty flowers every year. My mother loves 'em and has quite a few. In deference to some of her "more proper" little ol' lady friends, she'll call 'em "pink ladies" when they're around. ;)

Bees like them too. Pink Lady for the more proper ladies.. that's good. Sounds like your mom calls them "naked" ladies when her friends are away.

I have about 3-4 dozen that grow next to my back patio every year. This year they were the tallest I have ever seen them grow.... averaged about 24"-28". They just pop up over night and are in bloom for about 3 weeks then when the blossoms wither I just cut 'em down with the mower. They always grow back the next year.

You need to dig them up every few years and separate the bulbs, like iris. Some of them popped up at a house I bought. I started to dig them up in the fall, and found a patch as big as a kid's wagon packed solid with bulbs. They ended up lining my sidewalk. The leaves come up before anything else, then are dying back about the time I first mow the yard. Just mow over them, then late July/early August the flower stalks pop up.
