I'm posting this here and in the LOUNGE because I'm not sure where I've seen your work .
Who does all the really nice wooded vases and bowls here ?I need a motar and portis to grind my FFFG black powder into FFFFG to prime my lock on my flint lock .Goex had a fire last year and this stuff is scarce as hens teeth ,I can only find FFFG Goex and even that’s scarce and way expensive and Pyrodex won't do .It's fine in my cap locks but the flash point is too high for flint locks ..If your interested in making me a set send please P.,M. me and lets work out a price .
Thanks,
Your friend ,
Lou

CruzerLou, Have you tried your flintlock with 3fff black powder, mine work just fine with both 3fff and 4 ffff. I see you live in Virginia, have you ever visited the N/SSA national matches, if you have theres a farm at the exit of fort shennandoah that sells alot of blackpowder. The shoots are held just north of Winchester. There open to the public, and are really something to see. I really enjoy the artillary matches.

Why does it have to be wood? Just Google "mortor and pestle" and you'll find plenty of them on line.

By the way, what is a portis? I assume you meant pestle?

How much do you wants to spend Lou$ I could make you up someting fancy or simple and inexpensive. I really like using wood for making black powder, or for grinding it to a smaller size. Another way to smaller the size is with an iron skillet and a small stainless pot. Put some powder in the skillet and crush it with the pot...don't need any fancy tools that way. Remember with black powder always do smalllllllish batches ata time, that way in case you drop a cigarette ash in there is only a small explosion and nobody gets hurt...
