I have a security six 2.75" revolver that is in need of a refinish, their are small pits under the cylinder on frame, on trigger guard and some rough spots on the cylinder. I would prefer a matte finish and while at it probably need a tune up to smooth action. Any advice would be much appreciated

there are LOTS of very good gunsmiths and gun shops out there, depending on YOUR area, as well as the factory itself for any refinishing....custom or different from original finish, then you must shop around, same goes for any and all "action" work...price is always the key word and custom or such and any and all additional "handwork" for 'prep' ( getting the gun to the refinish stage will vary these "prices"...a simple glass ( sand) blast and dip in the bluing tanks or in say black oxide, OR a parkerized finish, zinc or manganese, and it goes on and on,,,,almsot endless, again, one must shop around, check the shops in your area, get some price quotes...............standard for a "basic" normal "reblue" in this area is around the $125 mark...shipping of course, back AND forth ( to and from) will add to this as well as HOW or how bad your "pitting" ( rust) may be and the need for additional handwork adds to the 'price'.......call customer service at Ruger and ask them what they may charge, BUT remember over the phoine or the internet one cannot give a "proper" price quote as they NEED to SEE the gun, what it may need, then give you the 'total' cost.......so do not let this dissuade you..................much like an auto body shop, they are "estimates".............

Thanks for the input, I will take good photos and have them ready to send to Ruger for an estimate. I really was not sure about Ruger doing a matte refinish since it was not originally done that way. I just ordered a set of packmeyers to replace the poor fitting painful hogues. I am really interested in making my own wooden grips with a closed back strap since I have a decent wood shop and all kinds of nice wood laying around.

Please re-read what RugerGuy posted - Dan really does know his stuff... If you want something other than Factory finish then you'll need to shop around. I can't believe Ruger is going to do any kind of custom matte finish for you. If you want to go back to original gloss finish re-blue, then Ruger factory is an option. Same for action job. Ruger will go through it to make sure it functions properly, within factory specs, but they are not going to tune/smooth it up for you. JMHO

You might check out Ford's in Florida. While I've never personally used them they have a great reputation on other forums. They offer a bead blasting and blue matt finish as well as just about anything else. http://www.fordsguns.com

If you send it to Ford's please post photos. :)

MY first choice: http://www.robarguns.com for RBs proprietary NP3.

Second choice: http://www.apwcogan.com for Mr Cs anything-you-want.

Both can do superior pistolsmithing while there.......
