Gents,

Can anyone guide me to a source of S/N information on 3-Screw Super Blackhawks with factory stag.

Trying to locate one that was used in a 1986 murder. Case file has serial no. of 2680X in it, but in blurry photo last three look like 525 and first couple are indecipherable.

Any help appreciated.

So you Really don't know what the S/N is. Well if the first two are 26 it is a 1966--1967 gun Yea Supers DID NOT HAVE factory Stags.
Calling Ruger is a waste of their time. All they can tell you is when it was shipped. Do you care??????. Everybody wants to call Ruger. Well one of these days they might start charging for that INFO like all the rest of the Manf'g do.
So lets not waste their time for what we can get off of their site.
JMHO.

Keep in mind that those are best guestimates on the website. For example, the Ruger website shows my 357 Flat Top should be within those revolvers produced/shipped in 1960. But a letter from Ruger shows that my FT actually shipped in Dec 1959...

Old Model 3 screw Super Blackhawks with a 5 digit serial number would be from 1962 - 1968. In 1962 the SNs reached 10000, and in 1968 the last 5 digit ended at SN 40916. Starting in 1969 Ruger assigned the new prefix SN of 80-00001 to the Super Blackhawk.

As noted the Super Blackhawk did not come with factory stag grips, that would be aftermarket.

1962......7659 -11088
1963......11089 -14491
1964......14492 -18628
1965......18629 -22307
1966......22308 -26447
1967......26448 -33349
1968......33350 -40916
1969......80-00001 -80-13362

So what happened to the revolver? Seems like it would still be in the evidence locker if it was a cold case. What would year of manufacture help in the case or locating it?

From what I'm reading is that you're trying to find the first two digits of the serial number by looking at a photograph, possibly from the crime scene.
Call Ruger to verify if any Super Blackhawks actually were or were not sent out with factory stags in that time frame, stranger things have happened. So what if Ruger starts charging for info, it's a murder case!
Good luck.

Well then it starts costing all of us.
My Point is. It seems to many people want to call Ruger for stuff they can find on their own. They also request letters for a run of the mill gun.
Remember Ruger isn't owned by the Ruger Family anymore. So if you are big business, IMHO Records would be a good money saving dept. to cut because they need to many people in it..

Thanks for the replies. Actually did shoot Ken Jorgenson an email and he told me that serial number was actually a 1967 model and he gave me someone else to holler at to see if it shipped with tags.

Gun's not in evidence because murder was wrongly deemed a suicide. It was given back to the killer. Building up probable cause for a search warrant.

If the revolver does have factory stags, and is a 44 mag, it would be a flattop and the production/ship date would be different.
