Well, I did it today. I was disassembling the bolt on my SS M77 MKIIRSI and the bolt lock pin was launched into space. I know it is someplace, but after looking for hours, I cannot find it. I called Ruger and the lady told me that the rifle would have to be sent back to get the part replaced. I do not under stand why. It is not a fitted part. When the safety is positioned all of the way back, it pushes on the pin, causing the front of it to engage in a hole in the bolt handle, locking it from being lifted. In the worst case, I do not see why I can not send just the bolt back for replacement of the pin. I will be spending many more hours looking for that pin before I box up the rifle.

Did you try Brownell's or Midway?

I have made various pins from small twist drills - run the drill thru then grind off the ends, but I can't remember the exact configuration of the little bitty pin that locks up the bolt -- probably making another pin would not be possible.

After spending time on hands & knees looking for small parts I got a powerfull magnet on the end of a 3 ft long handle. The magnet attracts all sorts of ferrous junk stuff including lost pins, springs, screws, and other items. The floor of my gun room shows tracks from numerous dragging operations

I dread the lost of a small part causing the hassle and expense to replace --good luck.

Mattsbox, I thought about that bag trick, AFTER I launched the part. anyway, good end to this story. I found it today. I started doing a detailed search in progressively larger areas and found it in a bin on the door of my reloading cabinet. The reason I had to totally disassemble the firing pin assembly, is because I am going to bead blast the stainless parts. If glass beads were to get into the plunger area, they could move around and leave the bolt locked up even after the safety was disengaged. I thank you for your posts.

RJ556, Tip! Take the dimmensions of the pin and make yourself a "spare" for possible future use. Nothing like having extra parts!...............Dick

Pincone. Not in this case. A lathe would be required to make this pin. It has a stepped diameter. I don't have a lathe so I'll have to use the bag disassembly method.
