Neat set of Ruger videos

Thanks for the link, it's pretty neat. I just finished section 9, the stocks. #8 was the barrels. They sure think highly of them the way they talk.
But watching these videos, I'm just amazed Ruger doesn't have a custom shop like so many other companies. CZ or S&W are two that come to mind. I bet almost everyone here would pay more for their own idea of the perfect handgun with some little customizations to make it their own.
I see a lot of hands on work in these videos already, couldn't just a little more be possible? Instead Ruger has that survey about packaging. :(

I learned so much from those videos, like some parts get heat treated in a liquid salt bath at 1,565 degrees for 10 minutes. Who knew?

All too often we imagine row after row of stoop-shouldered old guys in thick glasses, assembling one gun at a time from a pile of rough-cast pieces using nothing more than a selection of files, a caliper, and maybe a micrometer.
Nope. It's big bidness, mass-production with all the latest automated machining centers and carefully set up lines, cranking out thousands upon thousands of essentially identical guns every week.
Even with the best manufacturing controls in place, it's no wonder we see the occasional "oops" show up here in the forum, representing what, one percent of one percent of one percent of the total output? And at a price most can afford.
