This one always gets to me. It brings back a memory of a couple of nights before Christmas, a car with a father, mother and child and how it slid off an icy road. Not sure exactly how we spotted them. Lights were out, and they were down an embankment in a ditch for rain runoff. A few bumps and bruises and thankfully nothing more. We loaded them into the big red trucks and they spent the rest of the night at the fire house. I don't know if those folks remember that night, but it crystalized in one single event why we did what we did. Why we spent nights, weekends and holidays away from our families. Oh sometimes they didn't understand, especially when the kids are little. But we knew.
