Agree on the fluted cylinder. All four of my stainless guns have fluted cylinders(all barrel lengths) Traffic stoppers the single time I put them in the display case at the MWCA March show, some years ago...... 8)I think all barrel lengths should have fluted cylinders from the factory :roll:

That is the kind of gun a guy could shoot all day long. Very nice! I also like it with the fluted cylinder.

The truth is that when I bought it I was looking also at the 7 1/2 inch barrel. I opted to buy this one because it is primarily for carrying on horseback. I'm glad I chose this one because the other wouldn't be as comfortable to carry all day. I also liked the fluted cylinder.

And this is me testing expansion of the ammo seen above. Those were 200 grains soft points loaded with 24,0 grains of H2400. I tested on a 200 litre drum cut in half and filled with water.

Isn't this the Blackhawk and not the Super Blackhawk ?
44 Mags are all Supers; the 7 1/2 and 10 1/2 have SBH dragoon square trigger guards. and the 4 5/8 and 5 1/2 version have the round trigger guard grip frame. Parts are inter-changeable, action, gripframe and cylinders(if they are measurement identical; my four are so configured, perhaps by luck) My four also have the round guard trigger frames with the fluted cylinders...Striking!! Great looking toy. I think the barrel length should suit your purpose. Myself I like the dragoon style with the none fluted cylinder. I guess that's way there are choices, so everyone can get what they like. Get some powder smudges and lead on the shinny work of art!

FWIW, the 5-1/2" Super was introduced as a way to appease those Ruger shooters whom wanted a "packin' pistol" instead of the traditional 7-1/2", large grip framed Super.
Voila'! Instant acceptance, soon followed by Williams Shooter's Supply's 4-5/8", non-fluted "Distributor" special. It, too, eventually ended up as a standard catalog item.
