Picked up my Single Seven today
Mmmm!! Ruger sure is putting out some sweet sixguns lately. Well in this case, a seven gun. I chose the 4 5/8" model for my first one. B/C gap is 0.008" consistently. Finish was really pretty good. Grips were short at the bottom, but i have some birdseye maple on order to fix that issue.

I have 2 bullets i mainly want to use. a 100 gr Keith style from Magnus bullet company, and these. That's a 120 gr boolit in there. Oughta be spicy!

Took it out today for a quick range session with the 100 gr Keiths.
It shoots too! The three on the right just outside of the black was first few to make sure it was on at 20. Backed up to 40 and it shot 8" high. Started walking it down and the lowest hole was 4th to last. Turned it up three clicks and shot last three on left just touching the black. That was with my forearms wedged between my knees at sunset. No other support. 11 gr of WW296 and 100 gr Keith.

recoil is very mild with absolutely no pressure signs with this load, so i think i may bump the charge up a little more. right now there is nearly 1/8" gap between the bottom of the bullet and the powder. may bump it up a little to try to get closer to 100% capacity. i will move slowly.

Loading and unloading this Single Seven was a pain when i first got it because it was like the older NM Blackhawks and the chamber didn't line up with the loading gate "post click". You had to line up the chamber before the click or run the cylinder back around to catch that chamber. I got to looking and noticed it was barely catching. So i took the file and a stone and opened the loading gate up a tad. Now the chamber lines up with the loading gate after the click, making it possible to load/ unload before or after.

I have heard one owner say his was this way from the factory so maybe mine wasn't clearanced enough from the factory. How bout you other Seven owners?

I've got mine in 7 1/2" and been shooting the 115 hollow points with 13 gr. of H-110. I'll get it tuned up with a trigger job and some larger grips soon. It shoots well and I have it almost dialed in for 25 yards. Fun. Fun! Steve

My base pin keeps jumping. Aggravating. If i can get Belt Mt on the phone, i'm gonna buy a pin and heavier latch spring. But it is very fun.

Joe, take a little rat tail file to the groove of your base pin and make it deeper. Snugged mine right up.

the latch seats all the way. But the base pin moves forward to back a slight bit.

Here are some targets from my quick range session Friday. This is what was on the Facebook link that didnt show up. My rest was sitting with wrists jammed between my knees. So def no ransom rest. Ha. Squares are approx 2"x2". I know most of yall only do that bad when hip shooting but bare with me.

40 yards. 11.8 gr 296 with 120 gr cast. I loaded 50 more of these to try tonight. Maybe i can get to the range to see how they do at 25 yards and practice more at 40.

40 yards. 12 gr 296 with 100 gr Keith.

40 yards. 11 gr 286 with 100 gr Keith. This load left my cases smoky so not enough to seal the chamber.

11 yards with 32S&W. (7) factory 86 gr lrn and (7) of my reloads: 1.5 gr of 231 with 90 gr swc. May even be a few one handed, standing shots on there. Cant remember. This is a fun, quiet load.

11 yards with 32H&R mag. 3.5 gr of 231 and a 100 lrn.

My 2, 5 1/2in, the brass lines up just right. After waiting with bated breath for my 4 5/8, it was way past the click. I cut into the transfer bar slot before i got it to work. The resale is shot, but I'll let whoever gets it when I die worry about that. There is plenty of clearance, NOW.........

I've had to go back a couple times to open it up a littl more. Luckily i havent gotten into the slot and it clears fine now.

I'm going to keep back a 7.5" for myself, but have one 7.5" order left to fill, so haven't got to play with one of them yet. I just got off the phone with some of the custom builders, and have made a call to Randall Powers at Power Custom. It appears to me that a lot of headache and heartache could be foregone here by free spinning the action. Regardless as to whether that's a viable option at this point or not, I STRONGLY suggest sending these revolvers that have this issue, or any other mechanical issue back to Ruger. I can't speak for other dealers, but if you've got a problem with anything I've sold you, give me a holler and I'll get you a call tag lined up and we'll let THEM deal with it UNDER WARRANTY rather than voiding the warranty.

I have not had much play time with mine, it just back back from Ruger Tuesday. However so far it seems to load just like my 32. Go to the click and it's too far, stop just before the click and it's good to go.

I have not check with Powers in a bit, but hopefully he will have the Bisley half cock setup for this out soon.

Yea i figured it wasnt built in to these guns since it did not have the indexing button like my flattops have...

oh well, dont bother me too much. as long as it shoots, which it does.

And today i put it on the brown truck heading back to Ruger. Base pin issue worsened with the replacement part. Upon closer inspection/ comparison, i think the latch hole is not machined deep enough into the frame. Base pin came out with slight finger pressure.

Sorry to hear that Joe. Seems there is some teething problems going on with this model. When they get them all straight it's going to be a great platform.

they emailed me yesterday with tracking number. it is on its way back, so just over a week turn around from the time they picked it up to the time i get it back.

After the trouble with my 4.6in SS, when my 7.5 came in and didn't index properly. I called Ruger. UPS picked it up and it was returned in less than 10 days. It indexes properly, now. Very early in the loading window. I am happy with the way Ruger handled this.
