My "newest" Speed six UPDATE: Bobbed hammer

This is my 2nd Ruger, a speed six, .38SP, 2 3/4" barrel Stainless S/N 159-xxxxx $300.00
I'm a lucky boy, this is just after I cleaned and serviced it. I didn't even wear a mask...... :roll:

Thanks all, I'm gonna take it out for a spin next Sunday and see how it does! :D I don't think I'll carry this one as a rule, just too nice. And with other choices, I think I'll keep this one as pristine as possible.

Ordered a "bobbed" hammer for this one from Numrich. Price is good, but they :evil: "hammered" :evil: me on the shipping. Over $7.00. That's 25% over the cost of the part!

Bobbed hammer came today. Did a bunch of research on "fitting it". Just have to find the time to do it. Oh, on my rant about the shipping. Cost to Numrich was $1.92 Charged me $7.50 :roll:

Question: How critical is "shimming" the hammer? The one that is on there now has some rub marks (light) on both sides of it.

Installed the bobbed hammer today. Fit perfectly, works perfectly. The spurred hammer had some rub/frame marks on it, gonna order a set of shims for it. The difference in either hammer in the frame was only .001 so I think one set should serve either hammer (both .015-.016).

The trigger didn't feel as though it needs any shimming, everything seems smooth as butter.

I read about some hammers being DAO, this one is cut for both DA/SA.

Next, off to the range to try it out. Great pictures, but crummy angles, my bad......... :oops:

Nice Speed Six!. Numrich seems to charge you the hour wage of the person who ships your parts. It is always best to get a bunch of items at one time if you can, but some items vaporize if you wait.

Glad you got one of the spurless hammers that have the correct checkering on the top. I got two that were serrated (left to right) and although they worked fine, I always thought they were someone's project that wasnt finished. One of the people who Ruger sent to Colombia to build Security Sixes down there said they only checkered the top of the hammer on the spurless ones, and some hammers were double action only and had not checkering - but I have never seen one.

Also good to here I got the correct spurless hammer. I'm new to Ruger, but definitely loving them. I'm always late to the party, but consider myself lucky to find this one. I have an "in" at my local pawn shop, so I get a call when something interesting shows up.

I just love rants on shipping... NOT. Do you think Numrich should not charge the labor involved to package , move it with their facility etc. No doubt they lost money on your purchase.

Thanks for your input. I just figure the price is the price, and shipping IS the cost to ship. Add a couple of bucks to the price of the part for labor,packaging etc and I'm none the wiser.

Either way, I must have wanted the piece bad enough to buy it anyway. If they lost money on my purchase then they wouldn't be in business, would they?
