My Mini-14 build.

- "SOCOM" Accu-strut.
- Custom fitted a Magpul 11 slot rail.
- Magpul AFG

Thanks guys! It has an awesome feel, especially with the Magpul AFG. Since the action is exposed with the Ultimak rail it keeps my hand away from it.

What are your thoughts on the accu-strut? Was it hard to install? Have you had a chance to shoot the rifle now that you've put it on there?

The Accu-Strut was an easy install. This is a the newer model Mini with the thicker barrel unlike the older models with the thinner barrel that were known for "barrel whip" when they heated up. I didn't really notice much of a difference. My groups at 50yards were excellent while my groups at 100yards opened up a bit but were still good. To be expected but a lot more accurate than my 80's mini. That's only using the red dot or irons with the same results. Plus, I think it "looks" cool out there even if it doesn't do anything. :lol:

This is my first post on the Ruger Forum but had to start here on your Mini 14 build, this is really sweet. A blend of old and new, the looks of a 7/8 scale M-14, toss in a little new technology, keep it simple and elegant - and functional.

I have the same model but on the folding stock, and I was already considering changing it out to the Hoque stock. I have the similar stock to yours on my 10-22 and like the feel of it better than the pistol grip, I can man-handle the rifle one handed easier for some reason, probably it balances better with the light but full lenght stock. With the Mini 14 folding stock folded closed, the carbine is very clunky and fat, all sorts of sharp edges and snag points, open or losed, nowhere near as usable as it looks. The old 1980's para style folder was probably better. I love the Mini-14 though, and now after seeing your carbine setup I am sold.

BTW I also have the barrel stabilizer, and same model as you, I did not really see a big difference either. I can pop 1 liter soda bottles shot for shot at 50-100 meters so I am very happy there. But the stabilizer lends the Mini more of the look of an M-14 and in this case looks count too IMHO.

So please forgive me if I blatantly copy your design, I have bookmarked the parts on the Magpul site.

Is that true?
