My Flat top 44 spe

picked this up off gunbroker , it had maybe a couple hundred rounds tho it , anyway got it home today and just had to try it out, temp was about 15 so not the best time to be shooting , useing a old pizza box top as a target , range was 8 yards off hand , loads where 180 gr JHP by R & R Enterprises

Find a load it likes and those groups should shrink by about 2/3rds! Mine is shooting around and inch or less at 25' with cast loads it likes. Mine has not had a jacketed bullet put down its throat! I LOVE it. So much so that I bought the matching 45 Colt/ACP convertable - both in 4 5/8" bbl. And the Colt is shooting as good or better than the 44 SPC!

i would have to say the groups where more my fault than the gun , it just wasn't a very nice day to be out playing but i had to put a few thru it LOL that wind felt like it was going right thru me , i know in the 2nd picture that far left round was all mine :oops:

what bullet and powder combo are you using ?

I am shooting a Lee RNFP that is listed at 200 grns, but drops at 217 grns! w/ my alloy. Other bullet I am shooting is the Keith that drops 256 grns for me. Using Unique with both, and Power Pistol and 2400 with the Keith. If you are interested in exact loads, drop me a PM. Don't want to publish here off the top of my head.

Yep, the flat top 44 Specials are great guns. Mine would shoot like that at 25 yards, off a rest, using 250 grain Keith lead bullets and the Skeeter load of 7.5 grains of Unique powder (or 8.5 grains of Power Pistol). It also flat out loved the 200 grain XTP.

I started pushing mine fairly hard and the groups just keep shrinking --- using Power Pistol and 2400.

And, Yeah ---- That 200 grain XTP does really well in mine, too.

Yep.... Skeeter Loads : 7.5g Unique/Universal under 240g SWC or 250g Keith bullet. Just about the only load I put through mine. Mine will never, never see jacketed bullets unless forced too for some unknown reason.

She's a winner for sure. I'm considering a Special pretty hard myself right now. Trying to decide between the 45 Colt and the 44 Special. Every time I see posts like this it gets a little easier to choose.

Easier??? No :) . You'll just end up with both ;) . .45 Colt is my favorite, but .44Spec is close second! I enjoy both.
