i had several shotguns and rifles before this, but this 512 was officially my first handgun. my mom and dad got it for me for Christmas in 1987.

i used the open sights for a while, then got the burris mount, and used an old first-generation i.m.i. red dot sight. it was the same diameter as the barrel, and i thought it looked very neat, and it worked great, but it used the old mercury batteries, and they eventually were just unavailable. i traded it off and switched to an old bushnell phantom 1.3X scope for a while. i had this tasco red dot on an ar15, and when i traded the rifle in the early '90s, i kept the sight, and put it on the little ruger. it looks a little "big" on there, but it is still a sweet shooting package!

one of these days, i will have to update to one of the new tiny optical red-dots!

The .22's are fun with the red dots! But to keep in the habit, I've gont back to irons personally. Not saying that the mount is gone.

thanks! i have thought about taking the pro-point off, but i am afraid there might be marks where the mount has been on there for so long. i honestly can't even remember where the front sight is! surely, i still have it, somewhere!
