Not a gun, but at least it is named after a gun. Have not seen a dog in my life that get as excited as him when he sees a rifle. If someone mentions the word BIRD he would check out the whole yard within seconds. Took the picture on the farm sometime last year. Thought this was a nice picture of Luger doing his thing.

From one of the best Twilight Zone episodes ever - "a man, well, he'll walk right into Hell with both eyes open. But even the Devil can't fool a dog!"

Here's......Hagrid. He was originally named Haggard by the guys at the pound due to his appearance when he was brought in. Apparently, he was up on one of the ag canals and had been fighting, most likely with some coyotes. He's full GSP, as you can see. He's our third GSP and our second one from the pound.

When they asked about the name, the wife answered "Hagrid"==I thought "Hmmmmm Germanic sounding, sounds like a warrior! OK!"

Well, found out the next day Hagrid is the big, slow, dark, gentle giant from Henry Potter. well, the name fits, so we kept it!.

German Shorthair (or shorthaired) Pointer.

One of the versatile breeds-pointer, watchdog, family dog, retriever & big game hunters. Bred with German efficiency to do everything pretty well for the one dog hunter. Generally considered the best pointing breed (THAT will get me flamed!)

Also called the Kurtzhaar.

German Shorthair Pointer, sure there are other dogs..... but who cares! Now we are really in for it.

My dog is named Elmer Keith. He is my 5th dog...He's a "farm mix" and has Labrador, St.Bernard, Collie, and some PITA in him.

The second pic is more recent...He's about 90lbs now at 11mos.

COR,

Does the PITA refer to hound of some sort :D, or does he just fancy himself a hallway, and a lap dog :D ? It sound like a good mix for a farm dog all around>

You got the lap dog part correct...I blame his mother...did you happen to notice his leash is actually a lead rope for a horse! That's a cliff behind us and he makes me nervous around it...better now

He's a great dog BUT, for example...he won't quit barking at the horse until the rider gets off and pets him or shows him attention, this can be problematic when mounted on a young, nervous, 1800lb Percheron especially if holding the leash!..he gets up EVERY morning at 4:30 promptly and he plays this game of bark to come in and when the door opens to let in the 15 degree weather, he runs off the deck and does it again and again and again, so much fun....I have 4 dogs total...I guess we can't get them all correct!

The PITA is a very rare and specific breed, you couldn't be so lucky as to actually own one. I have a Low Country Lab also...from the SC coast (Bluffton SC to be exact) also very rare.

While in SoCal, we (wife & I) were on the Board of Director for Quail Unlimited there. As a fundraiser, we held "snake breaks"==Snake Avoidance Training. One year, Wendy Malick (the actress & model) brought 3 labs==all farm/ranch dogs from up on Malibu Canyon. They had horse leads. The dogs broke two of them trying to get away from the snake (also nearly broke a finger on my left hand).

I think the AKC breed name for a PITA is a Plott Hound :D , and yes I am that lucky.

My fiance claims there are no bad dogs... just bad owners...I think she may mean me???? I will admit that I am not heavy handed as I was brought up dog handling. I just don't have it in me....she mentions the term "softie"...once or twice, An animal like a dog just gives me so much pleasure and literally turns my day around when I see them, I lost a chocolate lab pretty suddenly last year and she was my baby girl (11yrs)...it still chokes me up ...if a human was able to give 1% of the unconditional love a dog gives in a day the world would be a better place and we'd all sniff each others asses instead of handshake!

Hell, the perfect wife would act like a well trained labrador if I had my way.

BTW...it looks like your guard dog needs one more toy ...the bones are an event around here

GREAT PICS everyone.

Robb's pooch looks like he's been smoking one of those "left handed cigarettes"

Here's my little guy, Buddy. 1/2 lab, 1/2 basset

Our dogs Yenta (Husky mix) and Hailey the Lab. Yenta is a high energy barking machine. Hailey is as sweet a dog as there is. We're her third home. If you can't keep a dog like Hailey not sure what you are looking for in a dog.
