My '77 SBH

I just picked up my new to me SBH made in June '77. I got it cleaned and oiled. It looks like it's never had a round fired thru it. I can't wait to go shoot it. It has a bit of a stain on the right side of the hammer, any idea how to get rid of it?

Yes, I know exactly what to do. . . . . . .

Ship it to my FFL here in Wyoming and I'll enjoy shooting it as much as I did a very similar example back in the early 1980's....

One can usually "lap" the hammer in the exact same pattern the Factory used to make them look like new. With the Super hammer's wide spur you'll have to elevate the lapping pad and be extra careful to not scratch up the edge of the spur.

Nice gun! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed my 1977 version. In fact, they may be the same month (I haven't checked Ruger records for exact ship date on mine, but it should be around mid-year according to rough records check)! My s/n is 82-13547 - are we close?

Thanks for the offer flatgate but I think I'll keep it and shoot it myself. Besides you wouldn't want a NM, it wouldn't look right with all your old models. I don't know how to lap the hammer. It doesn't look that bad really, so I'll just leave it alone for now.

cellar701- My serial # 82-07256. A little older than yours, maybe by a month or two. I really like your's alot. They're like two peas in a pod.

I'm a little sad right now because I think my lousy finger nail put a small scratch on it. It's a little wavy scratch right in front of the cylinder pin release button. I don't recall seeing it before so I think it's new . Oh well, I guess it was bound to get a scratch on it eventually. Probably best I got it out of the way so now I can stop worrying about it. I can't believe how tight the lock-up is on this gun, it's like fort knox. My "Hollyhawk" has alot more cylinder play than this one. I hope this one will be as good of a shooter.

Ah, my memory is a little dim - we did trade some info a little while back on the "pre-warning" versions of NM SBH as you were waiting for yours . Yours is a beautiful gun; well worth the wait, I would venture. I think you will enjoy it - as you point out, the lock up and finish on these is very nice indeed.

I have a 1976 version ( 81-71094 ) of the Super and love it. Wax that blue with Johnson's paste wax and it looks like a million bucks. Locks up tight and shoots great. If it could only speak it would tell you what a lousy deer hunter it's owner really is!!
