Motorcycle ? Not yet !!!

I was thinking I'd be able to get the bike out in a couple weeks. Then last night we had 10" of wet, heavy snow... the kind we call "Heart Attack Snow".... the snowblower doesn't even like it. Now there's sand all over the streets again - especially in the corners where they spread it the heaviest. Road bikes don't like sand in the corners. Need to wait for a good rain to clear it up before I'll consider getting the bike out.

Anyhow, the forecast for the next week is for temps 15 degrees below normal - guess it's gonna be a while.

You Southern guys can now put on your smug face.

I feel your pain. Here in central IL we had 5.5 inches of snow Easter Sunday and a record low temperature of 9 degrees.

It's a whopping 24 this morning with gusts to 40 mph and snow forecasted for this Friday night.

While I was courting my wife, I used to ride my Norton Commando to/from her home the 100miles (each way) between there & my base (I was in the USAF) every weekend from November (when I met her) until the following August (when we got hitched), through wind/rain/snow (just like the US MALE ;) ).

In cold/snowy weather on the turnpike @ night, I used to pull both feet up alongside the cylinders while lying down forward on the tank so my gloved hands could snuggle down on the motor to get what heat I could.

By the time I got near arriving at either end of the trip, I had to walk the bike for the final mile to restore the circulation in my legs/hands.

Ahhhhhh - the memories this thread evoked ! . :mrgreen:

About November of 1967 I and a GF took off from Southern California on my 1963 Harley dresser. We hit a heavy freak snow storm just out of Death Valley. Had been to Scotty`s Castle and hit the freeway between Reno and Vegas. Not a vehicle was on the freeway. I had to walk it through some snow drifts. I couldn't drive fast enough to throw the heavy snow over the windshield. Finally after hours of that and not seeing a building or another vehicle we did come up on a filling station in the middle of nowhere.
The owner was there by himself and came out and said "I see it but I don't believe it." I looked back at the Harley and you could hardly tell it was a motorcycle. A mound of snow had built up in front of the windshield. I got some shop rags and poured the snow water out of Marg`s wellington boots stuffed the shop rags in and we made it to Vegas. We got a cheap motel room and Marge hibernated in bed for a day or two while I hit the tables. She was a good sport.

This is the first year I have had a bike that will start when its still in the 30s! (2004 Yamaha Roadstar).
Saturday it was sunny in the forties, they hadn't salted the roads in a few weeks and we have had some rain to rinse most of that off, so I couldn't resist taking her out for a spin. I put about 60 miles on her circling Oneida lake. It felt great, but I normally don't do much riding until I have started the season on a side road getting my U turns, figure 8s, etc. practiced up again, and there is still too much loose grit for that.

I live in Southern WI and have experienced the same thing..
After riding Harley's since 1962, I had to give them up three years ago.. :) due to health issues.
Well, last November I had my Heart overhauled and now feel so much better, (at least 15 years younger) I decided even at age 74 I was going back to Sturgis Bike Week one more time !!!
So I went out and bought an old Shovelhead FLT again.. Love it.
However in my exuberance a few days ago in a brief warm day I decided to take a short spin..
Had a "Mishap" in my garage and really messed up my knee.. so now am pouting..Actually never got out of the garage... LOL
But you can bet your boottie I will be ready for Sturgis for this one last Whoo Haa...:)

The conditions here in the north valley of Oregon have been much cooler than most years and just as wet as any in recent times. Still, I just can't help it. My bride of 35 years insisted that I buy myself a new Highly-Wobbleson (Harley-Davidson) last fall, so of course I feel obligated to give it as spin at every opportunity. It's a 2017 Street Bob painted "hard rock candy - Hot Rod Red" that's a fancy way of saying Candy Apple red with jumbo metal flake and highlighted with smokey flames. Oh boy do I love her... and my bride too. Had it out for an hour or more on two sunny days so far, but still darn chilly. I hate to admit it, but I'm at the age when a windshield may be in my future. Looking forward to summer.
