more RSI No. 1's....

So, I imagine I'm like a lot of folks here.. don't "need" any more guns, yet still shop like there is no tomorrow..

I go onto this gun auction yesterday and see a couple No. 1 RSI's. I throw a couple minimal bids out there (taking into account the buyers premium and such), thinking to myself, there is no way these bids will ride..

So with a total of 4 RSI's I threw bids on, I win two... I'm still scratching my head..

.243 NIB 132-53333

.270 NIB with a burris 6X scope 132-52043 (few handling marks/stain on receiver)

The other two were a NIB 7X57 that went for $750 and a 30/06 NIB that went for $900 that had probably the most fantastic wood I've seen in pictures...

If you know about proxybid auctions, you know I paid well over that in the end. They jack the internet buyers anywhere from 15 to 17.5% (depending on the auction) and then there are the shipping costs..... If you've ever shipped a gun, then you know that they can be shipped for as little as 25 to 30 bucks. These folks border on robbery for that service...


There is a great deal of small print with proxybid auctions. Things like shill bidding is allowed and letting the sellers know what the max is on pre-bids long before the auction (thus allowing shill bidders to bid up the item to an actual bidders max bid).

Here's a quote from one of the auctions right now that has a 19.5% internet bidders fee:

PLEASE READ: At the request of the auction company, this auction permits bids to be placed by the seller or on the seller's behalf, even if such bids are placed solely for the purpose of increasing the bid. I still shop these auctions and do so warily. I know I'm going to ultimately pay more for the item than it's worth. Some items, such as estate collections are worth it to me personally if the estate is one of a known individual. Also with estate auctions, the rifles are generally well taken care of and used very little.

So ultimately, I place bids at a cost (including the buyers fee) that I would accept as a general purchase price of that rifle and then not change my bid during the auction due to the possibility of shill bidders. This auctions got me in the end for the S/H and insurance at a cost that I am posting just for the purpose of "buyers beware". $168.00 for two rifles....

:roll: :shock: So, verily we have our last names changed to DOVER, and then my first name is BEN. These pizzants charge the seller 15%, the buyer 15% and then screw us for excess SHI. Of course the money launderers don't give a damn and put up with it. Us little guys are caught in the grinder.......Guess I am done for now; I am sure most understand....Most days, Bacardi, not on sale, is a better short term deal........ 8)

Hawkeye, bacardi was what I was thinking when I saw my invoice this morning and looked at the s/h/i fee's...

When this is all said and done, I will "probably" stop using their service to purchase rifles. Sadly, some of the finest and or rarer No. 1's I've seen over the past year have been sold through these people...

And you've hit the nail on the head as to why these scalpers can get away with this s**t. Excess income and naivete will win out in the end. (As well as a strong desire to own some rare and otherwise unobtainable No. 1s)
