I've stumbled onto another one ..... haven't seen it in person yet and won't get to until tomorrow.

OM 45, s/n 45-11xxx, with the box. Supposedly the gun is "near mint" and box is "very nice". Sorry, that's the extent of the info at this time.

So ..... what's a ballpark price to start with?

I wish I knew the answer to your question, but don't. I can tell you this; I've seen a lot of Old Model Rugers, and as I apparently have lived a sheltered life, I've seen only one in .45 Colt. I acquired it in a trade.

It had a 7.5 inch barrel, and had some damage to the muzzle, but was otherwise in excellent condition. I had Alan Harton cut the barrel back to 5 inches, fabricate and install a custom partridge sight, tune, and reblue. What a beauty! I'm going to refrain from shooting it until Bowen can again provide their excellent Field sight for Old Models.

I would not let a nice .45 Colt Old Model get away at anything close to a reasonable price. They are Special!

Thanks .... this one is supposedly 7.5 inch and I think with both cylinders; but .... again, haven't seen it in person yet.

I have a few of them myself. Desirable guns to many. The longer barrels sell for a little less than the short barrels. Convertibles are a big plus. If it's truly near mint, with the box,,, 7-1/2" barrel, convertible, I'd put it in the $750 ballpark. If it has a brass grip frame,,, & letters as such,,, that's be one of about 6 known. Forget that measly $750 mark,,, BUT you must have the factory letter.

As for the convertibles with Brass Grip Frames, here is what the RENE says:

Brass framed old model .45 Blackhawk convertibles are believed to have been manufactured by the Ruger factory, but the catalog numbers listed are never found with the "B" after them. The "B" models are believed to be un-verifiable.

This makes since as the only way for the factory to tell if a gun is a Brass Frame is to look at the catalog number and see if there is a "B" in it. Ruger did the same thing with the Single-Sixes on there grips. The hard rubber grips had a catalog number such as RSS4, RSS5, RSSM, RSS9. The guns shipped with the walnuts grips were listed as RSS4W, RSS5W, RSSMW, RSS9W. The convertibles catalog numbers were RSS4X, RSS5X, RSSMX, RSS9X. It didn't matter if they were shipped with Hard Rubber or Walnut that was the catalog number for both. The convertibles that were shipped with Walnut didn't have the "W" in their catalog number. So to make it hard on the collectors the .45 Blackhawk convertibles with the Brass frame, didn't have the "B" in their catalog number.

If funds allow -- grab it and don't look back. The OM Rugers have been creeping up in price over the last several years. I have a 4 5/8 45 Colt -- bought it mint in box and cannot recall the exact price. Having owned it for a few years, it was worth whatever I paid. However, to address your question, for a longer barrel OM in mint/ in box condition, I would not be turned off by a price of $750. For a 4 5/8 inch, mint or unfired with box, I would go up to 1k.

Yes, to many that may seem excessive for a not particularly rare Ruger, but they are not making anymore.

As for the rarity of Old Model Ruger .45 Blackhawks, you have to realize that Ruger made more .44 Mag. Flattops then they made Old Model .45 Blackhawks. And you know what they are selling for!!!!
