I have been watching World on Fire on the PBS network. For those who aren't familiar with it, it is about World War II in the beginning days, and is from the standpoint from civilian perspective. Like Ken Burns' usual films, it jumps around like a rabbit on a bed of coals. The story takes place in Poland, France, and England and right now is about to the beginning of the Battle of Britain.

There are scenes of German soldiers coming into towns, and British soldiers being evacuated at Dunkerque. There are the usual Efields, Mausers, Bren guns etc, but the handguns are what has attracted my interest.

So far, there are many Lugers, as would be expected. But I have seen what appears to be a Model 1900 FN Browning, though could be a Dreyse, a Nagant revolver, and a Webley revolver. As I recall the Dreyse and Browning looked very similar.

The only faux pas I have noted so far occurs when a resistance fighter puts a Luger to a German offercer's head and pulls the trigger with a resulting click. They later argue about the gun being "jammed." Apparently there was no round in the chamber. The woman decoy then pulls the Browning out and shoots the German officer.

So far it has been fairly interesting. Factual, but a trifle hard to follow, and, at times, hard to hear the dialog.
