Mk pistols?

Maybe adding 5 or 6 steps to take down and assembly using a reverse ratchet left handed metric phillips screwdriver?

gasbag, that is pretty funny. You know someone is thinking up more take down steps as we speak....

Seriously, I would love to see a factory Ruger "mark IV" (or whatever they call will call it) out shoot a factory Smith And Wesson Model 41.

Hi Kevin,

I really wasn't trying to be irreverent...but I always hear about the "terrors of the Mark 1, II, III" series.
I have a mark II, III and a 22/45. When I first got them my head exploded.
Then I discovered if I printed out the assembly/dis-assembly instructions and put them up on the wall in front of me
at my workbench I stopped having problems.
I love the pistols. They are comfortable to shoot, they are accurate and with a little forethought they are easy to maintain.

Hopefully, old will be new and they will undo the changes they made and go back to making mkII's. I know it'll never happen but it is nice to dream.

if you think about it, the MKIII is a lot like an AR, just and antiquated way of putting the upper on the lower so to speak.

How about adding some Ar style pivot pins and making it come apart like an AR style pistol. Don't know if it is possible or not, would open the way to multiple calibers possibly too.

hey I want one! LOL

Please please pease don't hope for plastic parts on the Mark pistols. After all they already have the 22/45 and the sr22.

I certainly hope they come out with an all metal, super accurate pistol. How about something akin to a Hammerli or a Walther GSP. One of those European target guns. I know that isn't Ruger's style though. It would be nice to see options for custom features like Smith and Wesson's custom shop.

Do you know something we don't? Did steelshooterco get something right with the comment about different calibers? Could a variety of barrels be an option like say 32 acp? Or 380 or 9mm? Along with 22 of course?

Is this to be the next big thing at the Shot Show?

not sure it fits into what you intended, but how bout widening the mag (or another mod) to fit more rounds.... or how bout a 22 mag version?

All I know is that Ruger is working on price-point pistols, not "going back" to steel in any case. Plastic injection & MIM parts rule the day.
Take costs out of assembly and ship, ship, ship!
(yes, I'd bet my lunch money the "MkIV" pistols will be announced at the SHOT Show... watch the wholesalers for big sales on remaining Mk III guns?

Thanks, I guess I'm glad I have two STEEL mark ii's. So we can only hope for a cheap pistol, not something to compete with a Model 41.... That's too bad. But, at the same time, Volquartsen makes some pretty nice pistols on the mark II and 3 frames.

It'd be nice if the MKIV was the same as the MKII with just the mag release of the MKIII.

CDNN has the MkIII Target stainless bull 5.5" 22/45 at $299 NIB. - Won't get any cheaper after Obama's next speech.

Hit age 21 at 1981...YOOHOO, can buy a handgun now! LOL
Over 100 guns later...
Owned many rim fire handguns over the years......Down to 2 now...NEVER SELL OR TRADE AWAY.

#1
T/C Contender/first generation with the better factory trigger set up.
14" match grade barrel..out shoots almost all my rim fire rifles.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But the FUNNER ONE!.....

#2
Ruger MARK 2 -----22/45,stainless 5 1/2" bull barrel.

Scoped, it fired under 3/4" groups at 25 yards.
I took the scope off...now around 1 1/2" at 25 yards.

Prolly the funnest .22 handgun I ever owned!
Kills paper targets, tin cans, and a few pesky groundhogs just fine.
Hoping for some squirrel or rabbit stew.

Some newer model might be more accurate...but not in my hands . LOLOLOLOL

Anyone guessing on the revision of the Mk III and the next version of the 22 pistol?
Whatever they do, I will not be an owner. After purchasing one of the MKIII's and seeing first hand, the design for assembly\disassembly, I sold the thing and will never own another Ruger .22.
The Smith & Wesson .22 Victory looks to be the pistol Ruger should have been all along.

Or, just buy an original standard or MK I. Some things shouldn't be messed with, but some not so smart people (who think they are really smart) always seem to try.

The Ruger MK's or standard are not combat pistols. They are target or small game pistols. They don't need to lock back on the last round (hey, you have enough fingers and toes to keep count). You don't need rapid magazine changes (the zombie apocalypse isn't real). What you need is an accurate pistol with a good trigger and a good sighting system. Oh and maybe some practice so that you can't blame your failures on some supposed need for improvement in the pistol.

By the way, the American Rifleman has a good, but admittedly too short, article in the latest issue. Read it and understand why the MK I was made.

My hope is that current and future management will maintain the heritage and the history of Ruger's original pistol design..the gun that started it all in 1949....keep it the way it is meant to be, go back to the MkII version with only the mag release of the MK III..lose all the lawyer crap...and build the tapered barrel 5 1/4" and 6 7/8" target models again, it my opinion...the best handling versions.
