Hi All,

It's been a long time since I've posted, but just bought myself a Mini-14 last week and will pick it up this Monday. I'm from Cali and was wondering can I buy the 10 round magazine from Ruger since the limit is 10rd for my state? Also, might look for some accessories like a sight. Any good sites that I should take a look? This is my first rifle and will be testing it pretty soon, that is if I can find ammo for it. I also have an SR9 in my collection. I will most likely not buy any more firearms. Just want at least a hand and a long gun. Thanks for any information.

You can order them, but they are out of stock. They back orders are ok, wich means they will fill orders in the order they were received. Nice pick for your only rifle, I think you will be happy with it.

A decent red dot sight would work well with an UltiMAK forward-mounted base.

I personally run a Vortex SPARC on my 10/22 and like it a lot. Another good red dot is Bushnell's TRS-25. Neither costs a fortune but give good service. They're small and lightweight too.

Which version is it? Does it have the flip up rear sight or is it the newer model?

Its a ranch with wood stock with on 582-XXXX. No flip sights. I have a friend who is willing to sell me his falcon menace that he bought a year or so for $300- original $400. He was a sniper in the marines. He will even zero in the scope for me. I'm willing to buy it but have a question or two. Will the ruger scope rings fit it or do I need better ones. Also what mount do I need if any for it? Thanks...

Was wondering, has anyone used the the scope rings that Ruger gave? I was thinking of hooking up the falcon menace to it. Also, should I buy locktite for the screws that clamp into the receiver area?

I wouldn't loctite the rings, unless you want to use a torch to get them off. I bought my Mini used and the previous owner used loctite, I was not impressed.

Depends on which loctite is used. The blue is good for disaassembly, red is considered permanent, needs heat to remove the screws. Purple is for small fastreners, and is easily disassembled.

I know you are a man of few words, but do you care to elaborate? Are you saying to buy tech sights instead of messing with the scope at all? Are the tech sights really that good? Thanks, Ed.

I only read the original question not the follow up about the high end scope from the marine sniper..... and so I was suggesting a good set of iron sights..... Even though I have a few rifles with scopes, since going to and qualifying at an Appleseed project I really admire folks who can shoot with iron sights.... to me it is the true sign of a rifleman.... I wear my rifleman patch and badge with pride. (In fact the Appleseed rifleman badge/pin was my idea.) If you can learn to make kill shots with iron sights at 400 yards then sights just seem kind of cumbersome top me.

Thanks blume357. One of mine has a Williams and the other has the factory sight, I may order a Tech sight and give it a try. Ed

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm not a sniper at all, but my friend is. Will prolly just use ruger's rings with the scope. Will go to the range this weekend to test it out. Haven't got the scope yet, but will be buying soon from him.

Use the blue lock tight on the rings and you should be fine... or better yet let the marine install it and zero it in.

Tell your buddy... my father shot a perfect score at Paris Island in 1948 with an M1 Garrand... 1400 yard range. If I could shoot half as good as him in my prime I could have probably been in the Olympics. Then again in 1950 they took his BAR away and gave him an '03 Springfield with a scope.
