Mini 14

I have been kicking around the idea of picking up a Ruger Mini 14. Thought about used but it looks like they don’t loose much value if in good condition, Buds have new for about $650, and most of the decent used one are not much cheaper.
Reading post on other forums some guys are pretty hard on the re-views of the mini 14, but everyone is on the Black rifle kick now. Nothing wrong with them just not what I want. So what would be a good price for a used 14, and what’s your opinion on them

I probably would go ahead and buy new. Most of the used ones selling now are the older style barrel. Check http://www.cdnninvestments.com/

The Internet often brings out the worst in people, so I wouldn't put too much stock in any negative comments you read about the Mini online. The comments usually refer to perceived accuracy problems. I think a lot of it is what comes out of the southbound end of a northbound horse. It might be that the posters are just not good shots.

My Mini shows a definite preference for heavy bullets. The Sierra 63 grainers work really well.

It does exactly what I want it to do - put out lots of firepower when I need it. This subject always generates more heat than light, but I love my Mini and have the ultimate faith in it.

Have posted before. My first was a GB and the only way to scope it was with a "contraption" ie, B-Square mount. It always shot two distinct groups, fairly tight, but about two inches apart, for a total of about 3". I always thought it was the mount. Finally, dumped it. I got lonesome for another a while back and picked up a stainless/synthetic with the little heavier barrel. seems to work just fine. Ranch configuration, scoped in Ruger ringe. I really have not put it on paper but the 6oz. coffee cup shows holes just over an inch apart at somewhere around 100yards/meters. Plenty good enough for coyotes! jack

I have a used one for sale in the classifieds for $500, shipped. That is $150 less than a new one from Bud's, for almost equal condition.

IMO that's a smokin' good buy on a very nice Mini-14. I'm really surprised nobody has snagged that yet.

I love my mini, I am glad I bought it.
I had it decked out in black at first but, I got to liking the wood much better....
