I found this great folding stock for my Mini 14 from Advance Technology Strikeforce. On the Midway USA site is says at end of description, "for standard barrel"... On the Brownells site there is no mention, and the ATI website does not mention anything either. Am I to understand that all these great aftermarket folding stocks with rails and forend grip DO NOT fit the new "heavy barrel" Mini 14's?
Anyone know for sure?

Or are they talking about the Target model maybe?

I think they are just meaning the target barrel.... I don't believe there is a substantial difference in the new and old barrels where it counts on most of these stocks. If it did they would reference that the stock was only good for rifles before serial number 580 or afterwards or such.

ATI stocks are neat but they are bulky.

You very well may be correct about them referring to the target barrel.
My Mini 14 is a "580 series" but does NOT have the newer heavy barrel.
It is the Tactical model with the shorter barrel and flash hider. Before I bought mine last year, my research made me aware of the "580" series, but I did not know to look for the thicker barrel portion up by the receiver. I was depressed that I did not research further. Actually mad at myself.
I will trade the bulkiness over the ability to have a light and a host of different optics available to me. Plus that forend grip is great.
Thanks for the posted pic.
One thing I can say, is mine feeds all kinds of ammo flawlessly from any of the six 20 round mags I have. Once I get this ATI stock I will invest in some Ruger 30 rounders.

Hawkeye, what do you mean by "bulky"?
Wich folding stock would you prefer?
My mini still has the wallnut stock, but I want to rebuild it.

Just got a 581 Series with the Ruger version of the ATI collapsible/folding stock. The hinge is fairly large:

And the front end (hand guard with top rail and forearm) on the Ruger ATI version is larger than on the all-weather and wood stocks.

So I can see where some might consider it "bulky." I don't, FWIW.

The M4 style stock seems to make no sense to me on a rifle that does not have a recoil spring to accomadate.

Yet it has taken over the gun world. "Cool factor"?

A few things against it;

Small butt plate, very little reduction in length. Seems a folding stock should provide the maximum amount of length reduction. If a gun isn't ham-strung with the need to house a spring it seems silly too hang an extra "tube" on it.

We have a minimum lenght for carbines in Holland, so any stock(folding or sliding) that decreases the length of the gun is a waiste of money. It is indeed the "cool-factor" that does the job I guess...
I'll check out the choate or butler creek!

I have a 581 series Mini 14 and I am trying to find out the Diameter of the stock barrel all I keep coming up with is barrel Length, any help would be great. I am new here and can't wait to be pals with some of you to get the best out of my BN Ruger Mini-14, Thanks

I can check the diameters of an older one for you... but since you have a newer one ... why not just measure it yourself?

the diameters will be the same, it's just the newer barrels like yours stay thicker longer.

These replacement stocks do not interface with the barrels. the interface is between the front gas block and the forearm of the stock, so the ATI should work fine with the newer 580 series guns. the only place where there could be a potential issue is where the top heat shield/rail mounts up, but in a worst case you could dremel it out in a few minutes and make it work.

BTW try before you buy if you are left handed. The hinge is on the folder is big and will probably get in your way if you shoot left handed.

The instructions on ATI's website have a great exploded view that should let you spot any trouble spots.
