Just picked up my new Mini 14 Ranch rifle. So looking around for ammo. What is a good bulk ammo to pick up, brand wise? I'll probably get back into reloading for my hunting rounds, so would like some good reloadable brass after plinking.

As a reloader, I like to throw in a few nickle plated cases because they are much easier to find in the dirt and grass of Oklahoma. You generally do not get nickle plated brass in a bulk buy. About six months ago, I bought some once fired Remington brass from Midway at a very good price, and it worked great.

Never thought about that. Once I find the first one, the rest are usually easier. It's been so long since I had my last one (80's) I've forgotten how far it chunks them. Think I read where they adjusted the throw downward to clear scopes on these newer ones. Would be nice to have a brass catcher for the range like the AR-15's. Have to be careful about other shooters there. Another question since you load these, does the 5.56 casings reload more accurate than .223 casings? It's been awhile. I do remember having to punch out the military primers,(berdan?) rather not fool with that again. Going to have to relearn everything it's been so long.mike-c said:

Just my opinion... Georgia Arms factory reloaded... not the cheapest bulk stuff by far but all brass and made and then 'remade' in America.
You might be close enough that Georgia Arms might have a couple tables at a gun show in Virginia, I know they do here in my town at every show. You can call and ask for them to reserve ammo for you at the show.... then you save on the shipping and hazmat fee and only pay for parking and the ticket to get into the show.

My Mini runs on anything, if I'm just out messing around, the steel cases work as well as brass, and if I can't find them all, oh well. Just treat them as corrosive (most are) and clean her well after use.
I don't think most of the steel cased stuff is corrosive these days... yes, most of the foreign commie stuff is dirty... but that is different from corrosive.
Corrosive ammo comes from the type of primer used. Back in the nineties most of the Chinese ammo that came with SKS's was corrosive, I think.
I'm pretty sure it's hard to find corrosive ammo these days... but like I said, the foreign stuff is dirty... this is because they use various stuff to bind the nitro when making the smokeless powder... and it really ain't totally smokeless. I know the wolf ammo I've shot smells really strange.
