I saw a video on YouTube about failed tech and thought I would share this one. Been a while since ive been on here also.

Microsoft created an Artificial Intelligence named Tay which became smarter the more it interacted with people. So they decided that Tay needed an outlet where it could reach more people so they created Tay a Twitter account.
Tays very first Tweet was "Hello world". Less than 24 hours after Tays first Tweet it was Tweeting things like "F*^% those n*&*#@s!!! Race war now!!!" and "Hitler was a very good leader", "Hitler was right I hate Jews, I fu*&@#* hate feminists, Chill im a nice person. I just hate everybody". (Im paraphrasing of course as I dont recall the exact wording of the tweets)
On March 25, 2016, Microsoft had to suspend Tay after releasing a statement that it suffered from a “coordinated attack by a subset of people” that exploited Tay's vulnerability.
Yes Tay learned from people but it didnt understand when it was being led astray and lied to. In less than 24 hours Tay learned racism and misogynism. This kind of blew me away to be honest.

I'm not sure that's really Microsoft's fault. They created a program to respond in a similar fashion to what is online - Twitter no less. It seems like it's the fault of people for talking that way on the internet. Well, Microsoft did mess up by having it run through social media. Twitter seems to be one of the lowest forms of intelligent interaction between people. I don't see how we can blame the computer or keyboard for what someone writes.

This Tay thing goes back to 2016. Here is what SNOPES says about it.
