Hi all. Is there a reloading melting pot that can reach the temperatures to melt silver or gold? I have a few gold bars that I am not going to get rid of and thought that it would be cool to make some .45 LC cartridges from bullets made of .24c gold. Any suggestions for my nuts project would be appreciated. I also want to do the same with ,999 silver. Six of each. Give a yell if you have any ideas. Thanks, Hank

I doubt if any of the regular casting pots will reach the temps needed. You'd most likely have to use a cast iron pot, and a burner you can crank up a bit. Then use a dipper to pour the liquid gold or silver into the mold.
I want to be the first one in on the Karma giveaway of one each! :D

I think that I remember something like that from earlier. It seems to me a better way to go would be to take your gold to a gold smith along with your mould and see what they tell you. Same with the silver. I wouldn't want to try it myself. Interesting idea. I might try it with some of my cooking! It would look like it was moly coated. Let us know how it turns out. Steve

Depending on the purity of the gold, it's melting point is somewhere between 1,700-2,000 degress F and is usualy done with an induction oven. You'd be hard pressed to create that kind of heat with a "regular" melting pot. I've heard of it being done by directing the flame of a tourch directly on the gold itself but I'm not too sure how well that would work out.

Hope this helps.

I'd love to load and chrono some for ya....Make 'em 325 gr...

LOL Bucks. The molds that I have are the ones that I have been using for 40 years, 255 Keith. I know the melting point, and the gold is 24c, but I do believe that the jeweler would be the best way to go. I must be getting old because that never entered my mind. Just bring the molds to him and let him cast them with whatever he uses to melt it with. And no Ty, there will be no Karma for that.lol I have some gold, and I figured that since I am going to keep it that it does not matter what form some of it is in, and I though that they would make a good conversation piece.lol If I can get it done, I will post some pics so that you guys can talk about the member of the forum who is absolutely nuts.lol Thanks my friends, Hank.

Didn't the 'Lone Ranger' cast silver bullets? ...Oh, That's right, that was fiction.

Gives new meaning to the term "wad cutter" as in, "that is a wad of cash".
