During WWII meatless meals became a common thing with rationing. That is probably the last thing I would think of. I can not fathom meatless meals; but then that's just me.
Before the cardiologist declared Fried Foods Taboo, Friday Fish Fry's were something I looked forward too. Believe me, I'm a four meal a day carnivore after Lent. After my last bout with COVID I can't get back up to the 143 lbs I wrestled at as a freshman in HS. Dropped 25 lbs of muscle I carried most of my adult life In-service well within specs. GOLDEN YEARS my butt!Amazing how convenient it is that fish, which is flesh, isn't meat during a religious event.
Then again the Catholic Church mandated fish on Fridays just to support the fishermen.
I respect your devotion. Going meatless isn’t mandatory for anyone.Being diabetic peanut butter and sugar free jelly/jams
Yes, but the folks I'd like to spend time with call me Grandpa since partner-in-Crime doesn't sound appealing. LOL. I'd like to continue to be able to see their smiling/impish faces, and Grandma is more dependent on me as a caregiver than she ever was before. Also a diabetic. Instead of jelly. I press fresh fruit into the peanut butter.
As a diabetic we aren’t obligated to change our diet.
Got to monitor the rice. Yup Clam Chowder in moderation is an appetizer, but it is like salad, it's what you have with Dinner not for Dinner. JMHO YMMV.Wow. You just made me think.
There is a lot of soup with no meat but dang if I've eaten them. I could handle a lot of seafood- tuna, lobster, crab, catfish, shrimp, clams.
How about sushi?
I use Lentils instead of meat for the vegan chilli when cooking for folks at work, but Grandma isn't a lentil fan. Yet it's still a great suggestion. Although I do cook the lentils in beef broth when it's for semi-vegans. Sort of like most soups, chicken or beef broth is usually the base.If you use meatless chili, you can put chili and cheese on a baked potato. Also, meatless green chili over rice is pretty good.
Have you ever made it with a vegetable broth? Usually it's made with chicken or better yet beef broth so that it has a deeper flavor. Guess at my age it wouldn't be a sin, but it's the thought just as much as the deed to those far more devoted that this cafeteria Catholic. LOL.Pasta Fagioli (Fazool) is a good meatless bean soup.
Grilled cheese sandwich ( sandwiches) and tomato soup?Im trying to think back, can't ever recall having a meatless meal.
It's a Lent Thing.

Okay. How do you make chili without meat. And if you mention that abomination with beans you can just go to your room now.If you use meatless chili, you can put chili and cheese on a baked potato. Also, meatless green chili over rice is pretty good.
Milk isn't meat? Yet Liver Cheese breaks the rules. LOL.Cheese has animal protein.....
See post #15. Lentils, cooked in beef broth. Give it a try with some Carrol Shelby mix if the Doc says you can't eat meat before getting tested. JMHO YMMV.Okay. How do you make chili without meat. And if you mention that abomination with beans you can just go to your room now.
Not sure that's going to be what I want to say during "THE FINAL JUDGEMENT". YMMV.I eat meat during lent. I’ll never forget a nun telling my catechism class “it’s far easier to ask forgiveness then to ask for permission”.![]()
