No. You're correct about the rim...wouldn't work in a 45 Long Colt cylinder. Somewhere was a post about having a gunsmith mill/lathe turn the back end of a 45 ACP cylinder so you could use 45 auto rim without effecting the head spacing of 45 ACP cartridges. No big job for a knowledgeable gun smith.

Best to get a 45 acp cylinder and then you can use acp and auto rim, IF cylinder fits your blkhawk. greg

To clarify that last, you can only use a 45acp cylinder for both AFTER you have had your gunsmith or someone else turn down the back of the cylinder to make room for the extra thick rims, or it will not work.

If you want to shoot shorter brass the .45 Schofield in the regular .45 Colt chamber works well.

I second the Cowboy Special Brass - it has the same capacity as .45 ACP and can use the same loads. That's dern convenient to have all of that loading data available.

My Ruger Bisley SS .45 Colt/.45 ACP convertible will allow the use of Cowboy Special in the .45 ACP cylinder - handy to those limited times I might want to roll crimp in the smaller capacity case in the .45 ACP cylinder. Of course, you can use it in the .45 Colt cylinder, or...
