May Pole disaster

Saw this story and wondered if anyone still had May Pole day in school or their community. I remember waaaaay back, think I was in second grade, when I was the King of May and Patsy Taylor (the little red headed girl) was the Queen.

Sadly May Day has now become nothing more than another day for all the worthless folks to go out and demonstrate their stupidity for the rest of the world. I do remember a May Day pole dance in elementary school, but also remember picking wild flowers and leaving them on the porch of several older (grouchy) ladies in the neighborhood.
Somehow it seems somewhat similar to Cinco De Mayo. What other country in the entire world celebrates another countries holiday?
Seems to me that it has become just another day for people to get out and drink.

St. Patrick’s Day?

April Fool’s Day is celebrated in England, but only until noon I believe.

It means all the free margaritas I can drink between Boise and PDX, on Southwest Airlines.

And the May Pole??? They do it every year at the opener of Octoberfest in Mt. Angel. I truly love watching this and all the other kids dancing.

Cinco De Mayo is not a big holiday in Mexico. The day Mexico won victory over France. The day they launched the war for independence from Spain is the big Mexican celebration. It however is much harder to say.
