I recently purchased a Mark II pistol. Thinking it might be a Volquartsen. But after close inspection I found the name Mark Sanders 1992 underneath the barrel. Pistol has a 12" barrel with 8 alternating flutes like a MK3 Hunter. Looks to have a Clark Trigger installed. In searching the name I had his name come up as a firearms designer who worked for Ruger and that he was involved in the design of the Ruger Mark II. Anyone know of him?

A factory letter will tell you who it was shipped to. If it was shipped to a regular distributor, then I would say it probably isn't factory. I suppose there are a few people out there named Mark Sanders.
It is interesting that they would take the time to put a 12" fluted barrel on it then scope it. For myself, a longer barrel would mean I want the longer sighting radius without a scope.

I get your point, but beyond a certain length, iron sights on a long barrel pistol become extremely hard to focus on without extremely good vision or good shooting glasses (I wear trifocals), as well as much harder to hold steady without a rest or a great deal of practice. Now, for bench rest or sporting rested use, I can absolutely see it, but then we're back to a scope or fine dot again for best performance.

FWIW, I think the optimum barrel length on the convenient handling/sight radius matrix falls in the 5.5"- 7.5" range.

That said, don't ask me why I have several KMK-10's. I ask myself that, at least until I pull one out to show or shoot, and it's so beautiful that I can't seem to remember what the question was...
