Making memories

This past Father's Day weekend my son and I went to a local charity car show and put my 74 F-100 (don't care if I win anything, its a lot of fun). Of course his favorite is my truck (unless its a Mustang which are his favorites). The old truck has a rebuilt 390 automatic which came with it and I have had all the mechanicals gone through, new brakes, lines, master cylinder, proportional valve, shocks, tires, starter put in this year. It runs great and is simplicity itself. I am going to keep it as original as possible except for new three point seat belts since my son is going to ride in it and his booster seat won't work with just a lap belt. That and other than the headers and dual thrush glass packs I won't be doing to many more things other than trying to get it back to as original as possible. My son's wearing some earmuffs because over his shoulder was a loud exhaust contest followed by a motorcycle burnout contest.

I learned to drive in a '66 Ford Galaxy 4-door with 390/automatic. On Senior Skip Day in '69, some of us took a 60-mile trip to Johnson's Shut-ins State Park. A classmate had just been given a Barracuda. I beat him by 10 minutes. That engine could make a big car run.

I learned to drive on a slightly older F-100, it had a "3 on the tree" and was sadly over loaded with hay at the time. Later, drove a F360 dump that had that 390 motor. Good motor, real truck motor.

I've spent many an hour in or under old Ford trucks. My first vehicle was a '71 F-100 4x4. It had a pretty worn out 360 in it when I bought it, I replaced it with a new 390 short block with 427 heads and a 428 Cobra Jet aluminum intake with a Holley 750 double-pumper on it. Lots more 68 - 79 Ford F-series since then, though I been driving a Dodge for the past 10 years. Thanks for the pics of your truck and your boy, stirred some great memories.

Just this past week I had quality time with my Grandson and great Nephew taking my somewhat newer '97 Ford on a trip in the mountains. I think I had more fun then they did! Great picture of a fine old truck and a proud boy....
