I have a M77 270 that will fire the first round fine. The second will misfire with a light strike on the primer. The third round will fire. The firing pin protrusion is .057 and there is a new Wolff firing pin spring installed. The bolt is cleaned perfectly. Has anyone else had this problem? It does this warm or cold. Any ideas?

Factory ammo or reloads? Do you have another rifle to try the ammo in? Do you have a cartridge headspace gauge?

I guess the first thing to do is to check headspace on the rifle itself. Assuming that it's good, then look at the ammo as your problem. If reloads, check the cartridge headspace, and insure that the primers are fully seated. Then come back and let us know.

Thanks for the response. The problem was, at one time someone had done a so called trigger job on this rifle. The trigger/sear spring had been replaced with a weak spring and the sear was not holding pressure on the bolt. This made the rifle fail to cock each time.

I guess I should have dug a little deeper before posting.
Thanks Again,

Happy New Year to everyone!
