M77 Flat Bolt 6MM Remington

Hello,

Just looking for some information on this rifle, I know it was made in 1969, it is the flat bolt. What might be the value for such rifle (S/N 70-13XXX)? It is in wonderful shape close to 98%. It also has the iron sights, I do not see many of them with these is this rare?
One more question, what would the rate of twist be on this rifle?

I am also interested in reloading for this rifle, what are some good deer loads?

As I remember it, the M77RS flatbolt in 6mm is one of the more scarce flatbolt variations, especially in the RS! It tends to get overshadowed though by the limited production 6.5 .284 and .350 in the R and RS.
A couple of things you can check on your rifle is to see if your front sight base is slotted for a sight hood and also if the area of wood under your ejection area is straight across or if there is that little contour just ahead of the ejection area (right side of stock on upper flat).
If you've got a slotted sight base, add more points to the rarity of your rifle!!

The first thing to do is to call Ruger Records and find out the configuation and when it shipped. A lot of RS (Rings & Sights) turn out to be S which is the same rifle but not shipped with rings. I have never seen or heard of a 6 mm with the slotted front sight base but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I've had RS 6 mm within a few hundred numbers of slotted sight guns but none had slotted sights. All slotted sight rifles I've had have been either 243 or 308. I have a slotted sight RS in 243 sn 70-08740 that I paid $1200 for and it has the straight wood eject port. I had the slotted sight 243 NIB that also had the straight wood eject port sn 70-10xxx (Shown below). Ronnie Burke shows a slotted sight 243 in his book sn 70-08734. The M77 6 mm with sights is a tough one to find but the 250 Sav and 22-250 RS are tougher yet IMHO.

I have contacted Ruger, I am awaiting the factory letter. It was shipped as an 77S if I remember correctly. It does not have the slotted front sight but the straight wood ejection port.

100gr Nosler Partition over Varget or IMR 4064 powder loaded to around 3000fps will really shine for big bodied deer from up close in the woods or out to 350-400yds if you can do your part. The 55gr Nosler Partition over Varget powder is real fun with near 4000fps performance

I have more than a few "deer rifles" but a 6mm flat bolt is my favorite. It is lightweight and fits me well. I killed a buck with it this fall using a Nosler 90 grain BT pushed by IMR 4350. I also use IMR 4350 when pushing it's favorite varmint bullet the Hornady 87 VMax. There is only 3 grains difference between my deer and varmint bullets.
I shoot lots of different calibers but the 6mm Remington is among my favorites. Accuracy, low recoil, velocity and short action length are what I like. I know the .243 is very close but, I don't like it's looks....just saying.

Love the 6mm Remington!!

100 gr. Nosler Partition with 43.4 grs. of IMR4350 works in my #1B, and my boy's MKII in 6mm really like the 90 gr. Nosler E-tip and H100V powder.

IMR4350 is a great powder to try in almost any of the bullet weights as is H4350.

This should be a wonderful coyote rifle for me...........now to make up my ammo.

old thread but I love the 6mm I have been killing deer with one or another of them since 75 I now have a 660 rem. made in 68 with a vintage Leupold 3x9 years ago I use imr4350 and a 100gr. sierra BTSP exclusively, but now days I use imr4831 with a 95gr. hornady SST it shoots one hole groups.
