I went in to the local SS office to file notice of Ashley's passing, file for the Death benefit and to see if I can get switched over to Ashley's SS account as it is about $124/mo more than mine. There was a crowd there and the wait was an hour; yes we can send you the Death benefit, however due to the number of people down for the winter from up North (SNOWBIRDS) we will have to set up an appointment for you about changing accounts. Okay, an appointment; Here is your appointment:

Don't you just hope the Federal government takes over the entire health care system? I can imagine calling in to the local clinic and saying "I need an appointment because I am having terrible chest pains, difficulty breathing, and severe pain up and down my left arm". The answer will be "Thank you for calling. We can set you up for a visit with a nurse in only six weeks or so."

When I left active military service I was given a low disability rating with the V.A. for tinnitus and hearing loss. I was told that my medical records would go to the V.A. and that I should wait just a few weeks and then call for my first appointment with a V.A. hearing clinic. The V.A. did get back to me pretty quickly, giving me an appointment for 10 MONTHS LATER! Granted, hearing issues are not urgent, but 10 months? There is not much worse that can happen then to give vital services over to the government where overpaid, under performing bureaucrats are the ones you have to rely upon to get whatever services they offer.

It's the one I was AT; it is the closest one to me.

Wonder if it would have been better to hit one closer to down town Tampa for fewer snowbirds.

Wow! Come to Casa Grande... When I retired, Linda and I were in & out in 45 minutes. They were very helpful, and we got a 600 dollar per month surprise to boot.
