I have a nice digital still camera, so don't need a multi-purpose unit. I'm gonna bet some members here have experience that I can tap into. Don't need high speed. I just want to shoot vids of people shooting at the range or hunting and be able to post them onto my website. I would like to keep it under $300, but don't want pure garbage either.

TIA

If it's a "nice" SLR digital check and see if it does video. My Canon does a great job. But I never liked the sound so I just bought a separate mic and plugged it in.

It is an older one, and video is not an option. It takes great pics, especially excels with macro. I use it mostly to take product pictures at close proximity, but it takes good pics at distance as well. That is why I am looking a video only, because the cameras that do both get a bit spendy.

Why not use your phone?

My phone takes video, and is fine for recording events, but I can't pause and resume recording and editing is kinda meh at best.

A dedicated video camera would serve me better. Unlimited storage and easy transfers via SD cards. No cloud!

How about a go pro camera?
That is what my boy uses. Every time we take a road trip, he records the trip and posts it on the internet. I've gotta say, the quality has been tremendous.

But I've also gotta say, my boy recently got a new phone... a phone that is normally only available in Europe. He's been using this new phone for extended videos and claims he prefers it over the go-pro.

I would never do editing on my phone or camera. I like a big monitor and a mouse.

My wife made me buy a succession of video cameras, starting with an 8 mm in 1991. She refused to use them and we never watched any of the footage that I shot. Go figure. The last one used either SD cards or an internal drive, user selectable.

I preferred the dedicated video camera with an viewfinder because I could operate at it with one hand.

Looking into go-pro as well, thanks guys. I'd be willing to update my phone as well, if someone made one with video control/editing.

What phone is it, do you know?

My daughter is pretty adept at editing video on her phone, although I think she mostly uses her IPad for editing, after using her phone for the video.

This afternoon, she just did one of those dumb teenage challenges. I enjoyed it because I got to dump a bucket of cold water on her.

Oh but back to the video camera question. To the OP, look up various vlogging cameras. Nikon makes one, as do some other companies. They are just regular digital cameras, but have more video functions than “normal” digital cameras.

In fact, the Nikon I use is a Vlogging camera. I like it because it is lightweight. It also has interchangeable lenses.

I have been doing this for years. I have a simple Olympus Stylus camera. Mine is the 3rd model I owned. My current one has a massive amount of megapixels. I can download it to my puter and edit it all I want. It fits in my pocket and its easier to carry than my tweeterphone and is more durable. Plus, it's a fraction of the cost of a phone.

For anyone considering purchasing an action camera, I highly recommend either the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro (my first choice) or the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 over the GoPro 13 Black.
