Looking for a replacement for the heavy, uncomfortable quad rail on the SR-556FB. Will the rounded hand guard from the SR-556VT fit on the original rifle? I looked everywhere at the SHOT Show for a light weight hand guard to fit the piston system to no avail.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

Wow. I'm glad to see someone else here had this question, other than just me.

I THINK, one of these rails is a Troy Alpha, and the other is a Troy Bravo. but not sure...

The rounded smooth one (residing on my SR556E) has threaded holes. I THINK there is a way to add rails if you want, and WHERE you want. It is a much lighter rail according to TROY's website.

I'm still gathering information on this subject, as it seems, not many other individuals here, have much to go on yet.

EDIT: ADDED:

IF these ARE Troy rails, they have been modified for the piston system. Maybe a Ruger mod?

Also, maybe you can purchase the "other" rail from Ruger? I wouldn't mind having a quad...

Here is the thread in which I brought up the subject: http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=167762
...AND Here is the post:
Does anyone know which TROY rail is used on the SR556 or the SR556E series. (one looks like an alpha rail, the other looks like a bravo.

And will http://store.troyind.com/Quick_Attach_Rail_Section_for_TRX_Extreme_p/srai-vkg-pxbt-00.htm
THOSE work on the SR556E series?

I submitted an inquiry to Troy Industries to see if any of their other handguards are compatible with the gas piston systems and the rather unique method of attaching the handguards on the SR-556 FB. I will post any info when they reply.
I will call Ruger on Monday to see if the handguard they are using on the E and VT models can be used on the FB.
Thanks for your replies--

Look at the SR-556C and the SR-556CLA, basically the same gun showing both hand guard options. Don't know if Ruger will sell you a CLA hand guard, or if you would need to send it in to get it changed out thru service.

Had been looking at the SR-556FB, but waited for the CLA, like it much better, handguard and handling.

I just bought one of these, and have not received it yet. Not sure what is on it, but am interested if I can improve it. Thanks for this string, Hank
