Hello All,
What are the chances of finding a used New Model SBH Bare Frame/Receiver for a project?

Would I have to contact Ruger and would they even sell one through an FFL?

Thanks for the help/information everyone!

Go buy a beater that just has cosmetic damage. The gunsmith SHOULD return your spare parts and you can sell them d*** near anywhere. There is always a "spart parts kit" on gunbroker that contains all the major parts except the main frame. Some of them are the pieces of a gun that was cut up by "enlightened politicians/public officials" after various legal proceedings.

RUGER is getting kinda testy about selling parts. Someone posted about the non-availability of BISLEY grip frames unless they are factory fitted. I'd say your chances of buying a frame...remember it is the federally licensed/controlled part....by itself are ZERO. BUT you can verify with a phone call.

EDK is exactly right. Ruger states in their owners manual included with their guns that frames, barrels and cylinders are not for sale. Look for a beater. Any NM 357, 30 Carbine, 41 Mag and 45 (not counting the mid size flat top Blackhawks will be the same size frame as the SBH.

What project do you have in mind?

bullwinkle, your BEST shot is, as said above, find a beater, shooter, and strip it out, we've been selling pieces, parts, PD trade-ins, confiscated guns, ,whatever, since the late 1960's...that is about the cheapest, easiest way to go...they are out there, last show there was a new model for in the $200 range,, was damaged in a house flood.............(housed burn up, the basement got flooded,NO fire damage to the guns.....)
here's a couple we recently did ( undid)...........

they're out there..................

Thanks Guys,
Right now I have a line on a SBH Police Trade-In Kit which has everything but the Frame and Cylinder.

Also found a Bisley 44 Cylinder that I am working out the details on. Update - just got the Cylinder for $55.00 shipped - Hope I did Okay.

Looks like the gun shows might be my best bet for the receiver/frame.

Happy Hunting(which is half the fun)! 8)

Thanks for the confirmation Hondo44 - I was looking at putting together a 44 Sheriffs Bisley with a short barrel(maybe 3" to 4") and Ejectorless.

Cool! They just came out with and 'exclusive" SBH stainless Sheriff at 3 3/4" I believe and several members already posted that it should have been a Bisley. So you're thinking is ahead of the manufacturers!
