Local olive trees

CD, those are very cool looking trees. I love the gnarly look of them. Thanks for posting the photos. Perhaps some day my Olive bonsai tree will have that gnarly look but in miniature. It's only about 6" tall at present. I'm going to save those photos as inspiration. Any chance you took more that you could share?
 
CD, most of the Olive bonsai that I have seen have been drastically pruned back as part of the training process. Most likely to induce that gnarly appearance. If I could grow them year round outdoors in my climate (zone 3b) I would love to have some of those salvaged Olive trees, but that's not going to happen. All my tender bonsai trees go outdoors during the summer then come back in for the winter. If I had a big enough house, one of those Olives in the 6'x6'x2' container would make for a very interesting large bonsai. Thanks in advance for the photos. :D
 
Anybody ever see pistol or revolver grips made from olive burl? I've seen it used for knife handles and it looks like it would make interesting grips. But might be hard to work; very complex grain.
