Im getting a .454 casull in a SRH from a friend for $550  its the target grey model and have a few ? for you guys first is reloads I think in .454 im going to use 240gr. or 300gr. hornady xtp or maybe noslers I like h110 powder. For .45 colt im thinking 230gr. FP FMJ by powerbond for plinking im not much of a lead shooter in fact never reloaded any lead but that does'nt mean I would'nt try them does anyone load for the .454 or .45 colt to shoot in the SRH if so do you have any advice to get me off and running im planning on useing it in short range season here in Idaho for deer elk and bear and want one load for all of them also I want to put a scope on it legally in ID it cant be battery powered to hunt with so I was thinking leupold or burris I want one that can handle stiff .454 loads and want to stay with fixed power thinking straight 2X or 4X any advice would be great.

Thanks Scott

Also, make sure you get the XTP "Mag" version of that bullet. It has a thicker, stronger jacket to handle the incredible pressures experienced by the bullet in the 454 Casull. Your forcing cone will thank you.

Thanks for the info I would have missed the mag. part of the XTP if you had'nt told me and that will be the first load I try thanks again.

I load the 300 gr. XTP mag over 31.4gr of H-110 for my 7.5" SRH and it is verry accurate, do start lower and work your way up as all guns are different.

The center group was shot (and subsequently verified) with a 6" Freedom Arms M83 w/4x Leupold. 30.5gr H110 and 300gr Horn XTP Mag. It chronographed right at 1,600 fps at 5 paces from the muzzle and 70 def F.

Not barn burners but VERY consistent accurate loads using Alinant 2400
Hornady XTP 250, 26g 2400, Rem 7 1/2 primer, OAL 1700
Hornady XTP 300, 25g 2400, Federal 205 primer, OAL 1.770
