Lipsey's .45 Flattop; Holster Size

Is the Lipsey's Flattop frame the same size as a New Vaquero? I'm looking at a Simply Rugged sourdough holster but I'm thinking that a regular Blackhawk holster will be too big. I would appreciate your input.

Same as New Vaquero. That said, I have the Simply Rugged 120, and both BH and flattop slip in just fine. When you order you holster up, just tell him what you have. I have a pancake for my Bulldog and it fits like a glove.

I made a well fitted holster for a New Vaquero, it was too tight for a mid frame flattop. There was enough difference in the amount metal on the top strap that a nicely fitted holster wasn't interchangable, also the front sight is much taller.

Good point. Generalizations can be dangerous. I too have a well (snug) fitting rig for fixed sight New Vaquero/USFA/Colt which I'm sure would run into some interference problems with a Flattop as you say.

Added to the other problems, if you don't cover the rear sight frame you'll possibly open up your forearm or tear up clothing. Yeah, I imagine you could file it off some, but covering it is the best option, that protects the sight also.

My DOY holster for my 44 Special NM BlackHawk. It's a Bucheimer that I bought back in '68 for a 357 BlackHawk (when the frames were smaller).

I talked with Rob today at Simply Rugged Holsters and he told me that the F/T OM Blackhawk holsters will fit the Lipsey's .45 Colt Ruger Flattop revolvers. I placed an order for a Sourdough Pancake holster. 2-3 week turn around.
